thisconcerns AD1: it takes all of the space on my ipad (even more than the storage capacity;-) see attachment...there are so many threads about this phenomen, could anyone of serif mods pls post a reasonable solution for this? this is getting ridiculous.--we bought a software and want it to work properly..txs ps: deleting and reinstalling and soft reset and and and and does not solve the problem on a long term...space fills up again in no time
Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps.
of course I have done all of this...pls dont underestimate your fellow ad users...txs...as none of the other apps I use including adobe fresco, procreate, sketchbook causes troubles like this I still believe this is a Affinity problem...and again I ask for a proper solution for this from serif staff..txs
This is a well documented issue here on the forums that is unfortunately a bug with iOS as far as we can tell. We have reported this to Apple ourselves but as of yet it seems not much has been done to fix this. You can read more about this along with some work arounds that may free up the space for you in the below thread.
@callum txs for an answer...belated but an answer....I have read all the postings before and I have done everything (as I mentioned above) , deleted the app, reinstalled, resets etc....the storage is filled again in no time...I lost ALL my colour palettes each time I deleted AD and reinstalled it...because there is no way to save those end export...I dont want to seem rude but I bought the software from Serif and it is to simple an explanation to say its an apple problem...if that is going on for years there should be an approvement...but no: there are new versions sold with the same problem...this is almost a case for European customer services...I am an artist and surface designer and very often have to make changes to existing files and projects...it is absolutely time consuming and annoying to look through all my files because if I have some of them open in Affinity my storage of 512GB is not enough for one! Affinity app...I own AP also...and desktop version but due to the apple pencil I do everything on my ipad...
When I approached Apple support, they claim its a bug, but my own feeling is its an Apple feature to push users to use their cloud and have a constant revenue stream. Apple have no interest in fixing problems like this.
See below in ipad settings to get apps backed up to Apples cloud.
I tried the Apple cloud with 256 gb of storage, and after about 1 month it was half full with a device backup, and all photos and videos synchronized. I found trying to keep files from being synchronized lacked total transparency. I lost most of my notes, and after attempting to get them back took several days and required tech support.
Yup don't fight them, turn everything on, use all functions they provide, especially optimise storage and iCloud photos. Backups should be small since Apple only backups up data and not apps plus ignores photos since photos are stored safely anyway, Affinity apps are to blame for the huge backups. Save everything out of the apps. Delete and re-install, leaving all your work in iCloud drive and you will recover your iCloud storage.
and deleting and reinstalling again and again is not an option any more as I lost amounts of important colour palettes...as I wrote before, they cant be saved before deleting the app..another unnerving and very unprofessional feature of AD ipad...
as Affinity and Apple dont feel responsible for this I give up, I dont have the time to fight against windmills like Don Quijote... I will stop recommending Affinity products to professional fellow artists and stop buying the products unless this problem (and many other problems like rulers, a light UI, etc) is solved...maybe developers should actually work with the apps over a long time and experience what many of us here experience with clients waiting, galleries pressing...maybe then user wishes would be taken more seriously
I'm new to Designer on iPad and just spent two hours (unsuccessfully) trying to figure out how to draw a line with the Apple Pencil. I've searched the forum for every combo of "designer enable apple pencil ipad" and searched the Help '?' on my iPad and found nothing. Would someone please point me to the magic incantation that will "turn on" the Apple Pencil?
Once your Pencil is paired to your iPad Affinity Designer will automatically use it without the need to configure any settings, the only option we have is for controlling the double tap function on the Apple Pencil 2
Thanks! I guess that explains why I couldn't find any help/forum info on how to 'enable' the Pencil for Affinity. I had, in fact, already 'paired' my Pencil with the iPad and tested it with several iPad apps so knew it was working. I know this doesn't make sense but I thought maybe I needed to pair the Pencil with the iPad every time I used it so plugged it in again. The iPad popped up a note asking if I wanted to enable Bluetooth to pair the Pencil. Oops. This is a little embarrassing but hopefully will help future newbies that stumble on this post but I had (for reasons I don't remember), disabled Bluetooth on the iPad. Bluetooth, of course, is how the Pencil communicates with the iPad. If I had gone back and retried the Pencil with, for example, the Notes app, I would have discovered that the Pencil wasn't working for any app. I enabled Bluetooth and, of course, the Pencil started working (with gestures!) with Designer. I suppose a drained Pencil battery would look the same. Neither of which has anything to do with Affinity. Thanks to @DM1 and @DWrightfor your help. Sorry for the bother. I assumed that since the Pencil worked with Notes a few days ago that the issue was with Affinity s/w.
Help using affinity designer ipad to skew, distort or just grab literally just the top right corner and bend it in.... I've spent 2 hours searching how to do this as I'm trying to use this product in my workflow.... HELP!!!
situation
I've created a document in Affinity Publisher on the desktop and I want to continue editing the document on the iPad.
The file opens in Affinity Designer on the iPad as expected.
Everything is there but some of the images (my logo amongst them) are blurred.
questions
- How to re link images in affinity designer on ipad?
- Or how do I make sure (placed) images are embedded in affinity documents?
extra info
Replacing the image with the document menu: [placing image] look great again but sadly it results in the same blurred image after you close affinity designer, re-open affinity desiger and open the file again.
On the desktop, Designer would prompt you when opening the file if the images cannot be found, and allow you to locate them (or use the Resource Manager, which is only available when opening a document). But this is a rather primitive approach, available only as a backup option because Designer is not supposed to use Linked files.
In Publisher, when you create your document you can specify as part of File > New that you would prefer to have files embedded, rather than linked. You can also change that preference for an existing document using File > Document Setup, and you can change any currently Linked files to Embedded using the Resource Manager (Document > Resource Manager).
Thank you verry much Walt.farell.
Embedding the images in Affinity Publisher using the resource manager as mentioned solved the problem.
Now when I open the same file on the iPad everything is present and sharp as expected.
Think you may have to explain what your problem is, the issue described above was regarding two different filing systems so naturally linked files could not be found on a different filing system, hence Resource Manager was used to change linked files over to embedded files. This would clearly cover any filing system, say changing from Mac to PC or PC to iPad etc.
