For some reason my audio driver was missing on my laptop so I manually installed an updated version. I can hear sound now but when I plug my headphones in the sound still plays out loud and also in the headphones. Any ideas on what's going on?
Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post that you are having issues with the audio not working after the recent windows update. Don't worry we're here to help you.
I see that you have already tried to follow the steps suggested and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.
Nope that didn't work. I downloaded the intel driver and support assistant and updated 2 devices and now it says all my intel software is up to date but I still have the same audio issue where it plays sound in the headphones and laptop at the same time. It doesn't even recognise the headphones on the sound control panel (i have checked hidden devices) see below.
Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller is not present in my device manager. I'm guessing this is going to be an issue ill have to take to a professional face to face and show them on the laptop. ugh.
Hey thanks for the help HP support noticed my BIOS needed updating and two other wireless devices as well. After updating them realtek finally started to recognise when my headphones are plugged into the jack. Now my sound is working correctly. You were a great help.
The OS version is Windows 10 Home 21h2. After a very recent update, it can no longer detect and audio output. Upon entering device manager it said no Intel High Definition Audio Drivers were installed and attempting to update via device manager gave no results. If anyone know where I can get a driver for this or some other fix it would be greatly appreciated.
I found the issue. If you are experiencing the same problem as me, open Device Manager and expand the System Devices drop-down. The issue was an outdated Intel Smart Sound Driver it seems and once that was updated the problem was fixed.
Thanks for the help, unfortunately there seems to be a problem with installing and deleting drivers as the corrupt one reappears after deleting and rebooting. The problem Driver is labelled as Other Devices and named Intel High Definition Audio(Error code 28). Would you know what to do?
Hello, how was you able to fix the outdated Intel Smart Sound Driver? I have a HP pavilion x360 as well that runs on Microsoft Window 10 (64-bit) and I'm experiencing the same problem like you had. The same person, BANHIEN, that helped you out, told me to install Realtek audio drivers from the Intel website since updating to a new OS (Windows 11), that the older OS (Windows 10) audio drivers won't be supported afterwards.
All was working well. resent update result in audio failure. There is no device installed and can not be fix with drivers from Microsoft update site or manually. When connect external speaker sound is ok.
Thank you a million for posting this solution. It fixed my absent internal speakers and microphone, plus missing Bluetooth mic, issues that I've been having for months. I thought it was a hardware issue, as both HP's and Microsoft's automatic problem scanners could pick up no issue. Now that you showed the issue is in some Intel system driver that didn't update properly, I now recall back that the last time things were working, my PC was running very hot (meaning it was doing an update). Then the audio stopped. HP and Microsoft (and Intel): you should be ashamed.
Thank you, but GoClever send me other drivers. Now I have other problem. I connect headphones to 3,5 mm sound jack. Work speakers on tablet. After I disconnect 3,5 mm jack from tablet and tablet speakers are "off". How to invert? Speakers are default device. Uninstall driver and again install still wont work.
I have drivers by GoClever Support (still wont exist Windows 10 TH2 (v1511 10586) new Audio driver for GoClever Insignia 800 Win by Intel) and working Audio driver is for tablet GoClever Insignia 1010 Bussines because other Intel driver wont work for me on Windows 10 TH2. I try upgrade from Win 10 10240 to TH2 v1511 10586 and now clean install Windows 10 TH2 (v1511 10586) from USB on tablet. After I install drivers + Windows Updates. Audio driver work only with headphones in 3.5 mm jack. Headphones wont work, work only tablet speakers. I this problem also report on support for Windows Insiders and Microsoft Support. Microsoft recommend contact Intel support.
Yes, I contacted GoClever. I wrote up that I have driver from GoClever Support, but they give me only driver for GoClever Insignia 1010 Bussines because someone else does not want work on GoClever Insignia 800 Win with Windows 10 v.1511 10586, but this audio driver have problem with 3.5 mm jack yet. If are headphones connected to 3.5 mm jack (wont work headphones), tablet speaker works. If I disconnect 3.5 mm jack, tablet speakers are off.
Hi, i have tablet colorovo supreme tab 8 and the same problem with audio after update to win10. I try to install drivers from win8 and no succes. I got the idea to install the audio drivers from the Lenovo Tablet dedicated to the processor atom z3735 and surprisingly works.
I have been trying to fix my audio issue on my HP Omni 10 tablet (intel atom processor) for over a month now. Ever since I upgraded to the latest version of Windows 10, I've had no sound. I had tried everything recommended solution from Windows, and Intel, and I even was on the phone with an HP support person for 3 hours as she tried everything, to no avail!
I have one Micromax canvas Lapbook L1161 with atom z3735F. the windows 10 has been upgraded to v10.0 build 10240. my intel SST audio device & realtek I2S audio codec are of version 604.10154.1010.4947. now the problem is, before applying your solution only speaker driver was shown in playback device list but sound was not coming neither by speaker nor by audio jack. after applying your solution only speaker generates the sound but headphone still not working, actually I found that no headphone device is there in the playback device list, only speaker is showing. if I connect a headphone, still then only speaker generates sound.
I had tried everything to no avail. As one last effort before resigning myself to using an external bluetooth speaker for the rest of my computer's life, I tried this method, and it magically restored my speakers to perfect working order. Thanks so much!

Thanks for your feedback, from the above details, I would suggest you to load the default values or factory default in system BIOS, it will be helpful in case where the BIOS value has been changed unexpectedly.
Restart the computer, and continuously press the F2 or Del key while the system is performing the POST (Power-On Self-Test) to enter the BIOS setup utility. Usually, the POST process starts before your computer loads the Windows, at the time when you see the manufacturer loge as in this case is the Asus.
