Flag width reflecting the duration of event?

Hi,

How can I make the width of the flag reflect the duration of the event?

Here is the timeline I created:

I wanted that the flag "High school" actually has the width representing 8 years. And other flags should be not as wide reflecting that it was only a 3 months period.
