I'd like to use TimelineJS for a course site I have inside an LMS. The timeline won't display because this page, http://cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed/index.html, is not https and the server isn't set up to serve secure pages. Is there a work-around?

I'm sorry, but this is not possible at this time.

It's possible to serve the base page via HTTPS — it's hosted on Amazon S3, and can be loaded from https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed/index.html — however, we would still need to make adjustments to other parts of the code to make other dependent content serve correctly via HTTPS.

We'll note this as a potential enhancement. I can't forecast when it might get implemented.

Best
Joe

OK, this turned out to be a not-too hard fix, at least for part. There may still be some bumps, but try changing the reference to  http://cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed/index.html (presumably in the iframe src) to https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed/index.html

Note that this isn't a universal fix: some of our partners may not actually serve content via HTTPS — for example, a map with Stamen map tiles will fail to load the tiles, because they don't have https service on their tile server, and some of the other services we depend on also seem to be the same.  But the embed page has a default timeline, and going to the URL (https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed/index.html) shows that it works for many cases.

Let us know how that goes, please.

Oh, my goodness! That seems to have done it. Thank you very, very much!

I'm getting the timeline and the images, as you can see from the screencapture I've included. When the content box opens, it's not full-screen, so event text tends to have a scroll bar, but that disappears if the pop-up is made full-screen, or at least wider. That's a minor thing compared to not being able to see it at all.

Thank you. I'm getting a lot of use out of this tool. I've been looking for an easy-to-use timeline-builder for some time.

I'd like to add that I can't make the timeline display YouTube videos, but they've been problematic without wrapping them in another iframe. I'm trying alternatives, but I'm not unhappy. I'll substitute pictures or text.

Thanks again.

Amanda:

That may be a problem with your CMS. YouTube videos seem to generally work even over https.
