From what I can see of the source in all the examples is a physical file. I an looking to make a dynamic timeline where the items cam be filtered by using facets. to do this I would like to supply the data through an ajax call. Any ideas?

You can instantiate a Timeline with a Javascript object. This is documented at https://github.com/NUKnightLab/TimelineJS#using-a-method-advanced

It’s my understanding that people have had trouble with dynamically updating timelines, as in when there’s a timeline on the page which needs events added or removed. This is not part of the original design of TimelineJS, and so is not directly supported. You may want to experiment to see how close it comes to your needs.
