I am running Backup Exec 11d on a windows 2003 server, P4 3.2 GHz with
4 gigs of RAM.
The first step of the backup is to disk - the Backup Exec communicates
to all servers and dumps the data on a backup to disk folder.
When backing up to disk, throughput is anywhere between 500-800 Meg /
minute.
All servers are connected through gigabit network cards and a gigabit
switch. We have 10 servers in total.
The Disk is a Network attached storage configured with RAID 0+1 using
AT 133 disk drives.
Backup from Disk to tape results in 1.8 -2.1 gigabit / minute. The
tape device is a Quantum LTO-3 drive.
I am not getting anywhere near the advertised throughput? Any
suggestions?
(By the way, communicating with Symantec tech support is a complete
and utter waste of time. Level one support is jsut reading the
documentation when I talk with them These bozos have absolutely on
understanding of backup exec. They gave wrong information on Exchange
mailbox restore.
Thanks,
Mark
