Symantec Restore issue

If any one has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

Here is the situation. We have 7 servers being backed up to Backup Exec
11d. 4 of our servers are Dell 2650's (2 AD servers, 1 Exchange Server, 1
general server) I have tried in the past to restore them using IDR to a
different type of machine and could not get it to work. So now I am
purchasing another Dell 2650 with like drives and raid set. Basically is
this going to work?

I also can't figure out how to do a restore of a production server with
Active Directory. Would it best practice to design a secondary test
network? Again I am struggling with how to know for sure that if one of my
servers go out. I can just take the IDR Disk and place it in the
replacement server and get the server backup in a few hours. But how do I
test this.
