Location mode doesn't come into play until your application makes a
location request, which is a separate and subsequent step after SMS
opt-in. Your application supplies Zoom or Area as a parameter to the
location request.

Location mode isn't a per-user setting; the application can specify what
mode to use for each location request, as described in the Get Location
API documentation. The Veriplace SDKs also provide a way for an app to
specify a default location mode for all of its requests in the Veriplace
client configuration.
The user does have the option to restrict the level of accuracy
available to a given app, using the privacy controls on veriplace.com,
but that only goes one way - that is, if the application is requesting
area mode, the user setting can't force it to get *higher* accuracy than
that.
