Meanwhile, Bio-Major anonymously sends a letter to the Diet of Japan, informing them that they have planted several bombs inside Mt. Mihara. If the Anti-Nuclear Bacteria is not handed over, the company threatens to detonate the bombs and release Godzilla. With the country held hostage, the Diet is forced to comply, sending Colonel Gondo and Dr. Kirishima to hand over the ANEB to Bio-Major's agent John Lee. However, the exchange is interrupted when SSS9 opens fire on them before the explosives can be disarmed. Lee tries to drive away in his truck, but is killed by a sniper bullet to the head, causing the truck to be overturned. SSS9 retrieves the ANEB and escapes, while Gondo and Kirishima are unable to disarm the explosives. Godzilla is released as Mt. Mihara erupts. Upon hearing Godzilla's roar, Biollante's blossom opens, and the monstrous plant begins calling out to Godzilla. Miki remarks that Erika's spirit is seemingly no longer in control of Biollante, leaving the creature a violent monster that is part Godzilla and part rose. With Godzilla's destination made clear, the JSDF, under the leadership of Sho Kuroki, prepare their strategies for dealing with the King of the Monsters. The Super X2 is deployed against Godzilla in the ocean, and though it at first seems effective in combating Godzilla, it is eventually overwhelmed by Godzilla's atomic breath, and is forced to retreat. After the battle, Godzilla comes ashore in Japan and approaches Lake Ashi, where Biollante is rooted. Shiragami wonders if Godzilla came all this way to see Biollante because he knew they were made from the same cells. As Godzilla stares at the monstrous plant, Biollante panics and attacks him, and a huge battle ensues, and briefly it appears that there is a stalemate. However, Godzilla seemingly defeats Biollante by burning her alive with his atomic breath, only for it to be revealed that Biollante is immortal as she escapes by dissolving into spores that float into outer space. Victorious for now and running low on nuclear energy following his last two battles, Godzilla heads towards the nearest operational nuclear reactor, which is located in Tsuruga, on the other side of the country. The military is sent out to meet Godzilla at Ise Bay. However, Godzilla unexpectedly surfaces in Osaka Bay, avoiding a confrontation with the JSDF. Miki tries to help, attempting to make Godzilla turn away from Osaka using her psychic abilities. Her efforts distract Godzilla momentarily, but the force of Godzilla's will and his psychic brainpower overwhelms her, causing her to faint. A plan is put into action, involving infecting Godzilla with the ANEB, which was retrieved by Gondo and Kirishima from the Saradia Oil Corporation's Osaka office. Kuroki sends the still-damaged Super X2 to distract Godzilla while Gondo and his team prepare rockets loaded with ANEB. Godzilla destroys the craft with a blast of atomic breath, but Gondo and his team manage to get in position. Godzilla is infected with three rockets, including one fired directly into his mouth, but he kills Gondo and continues on, seemingly unaffected by the ANEB.
Godzilla contro Biollante (ゴジラVSビオランテ Gojira tai Biorante?) è un film del 1989 diretto da Kazuki Ōmori e scritto da Shinichirō Kobayashi. Si tratta del diciassettesimo film della serie dedicata a Godzilla prodotta dalla Toho, sequel diretto di Il ritorno di Godzilla (1984). Distribuito in America nel 1992, in Italia è rimasto inedito fino alla pubblicazione in videocassetta da parte della Yamato Video.
Kuroki, dopo aver rilevato con Gondo segnali di attività nel vulcano, decide di rivelare ai media l'esistenza del Super X-2, una fregata volante e sottomarina successore del Super X, distrutto da Godzilla ma rivelatosi efficace, e dotato di un grande diamante artificiale in grado di riflettere il raggio radioattivo di Godzilla. Durante la notte, i due agenti della Biomajor si introducono nel laboratorio per rubare il batterio e vengono affrontati dalla stessa spia saradiana di cinque anni prima. Durante lo scontro dei grandi tentacoli verdi uccidono i due americani e l'agente mediorientale viene lasciato in fin di vita.
Tomoyuki Tanaka annunciò un sequel di Il ritorno di Godzilla nel 1985, ma fu scettico riguardo alle sue possibilità di successo, siccome il film fu di scarso profitto per Toho, e il fallimento di King Kong 2 lo convinse che il pubblico non fu ancora pronto per una continuazione della serie di Godzilla. Cambiò idea dopo il successo di La piccola bottega degli orrori, e cominciò un concorso pubblico per un possibile copione.[7] Considerando il fallimento finanziario di Il ritorno di Godzilla, Tanaka insistette che il sequel avrebbe dovuto seguire una classica narrativa di mostro contro mostro.[1] I cinque abozzi finali furono consegnati al regista Kazuki Ōmori, malgrado il risentimento che quest'ultimo aveva per Tanaka, tenendolo responsabile per il decremento di qualità nella serie durante gli anni settanta. Il vincitore fu il dentista Shinichiro Kobayashi, che scrisse la sua storia tenendo in mente la morte ipotetica di sua figlia.[7]
Koichi Kawakita rimpiasse Teruyoshi Nakano come direttore degli effetti speciali dopo il suo successo nel film Gunhed. Inizialmente, Kawakita intendeva ridisegnare Godzilla come una creatura più animalesca, traendo ispirazione dai coccodrilli, ma fu rimproverato da Tanaka, che dichiarò che Godzilla era mostro, e non un animale. Kenpachiro Satsuma tornò nei panni di Godzilla, sperando di migliorare la sua raffigurazione, rendendolo meno antropomorfo. Al contrario del film precedente, il costume di Godzilla fabbricato da Noboyuki Yasamaru fu creato alla misura di Satsuma. Il costume, che pesava 110 chili, era più comodo di quello precedente, avendo un centro di gravità più basso e gambe più agili. Un secondo costume, pesante 80 chili, fu fabbricato per le scene subacquee. In contrasto al costume precedente, la testo fu ridotta e i bianchi intorno agli occhi furono tolti. Un elemento del suo disegno suggerito da Shinichiro Kobayashi fu di dare a Godzilla una doppia fila di denti come uno squalo. Come nel film precedente, modelli animatronici furono utilizzati per le riprese ravvicinate. Questi modelli erano un miglioramento su quelli usati in Il ritorno di Godzilla, siccome furono creati con gli stessi stampi usati per il costume, e includevano una lingua articolata e occhi mobili. Le spine dorsali del costume furono riempite con lampadine per le scene quando Godzilla usava il suo raggio atomico, così diminuendo la dipendenza agli effetti ottici (le lampadine però folgorarono Satsuma quando furono accesi la prima volta). Satsuma fu obbligato a portare occhialini protettivi durante le riprese in cui Godzilla lotta contro l'esercito, siccome furono usati esplosivi veri.[7]
Al contrario del film precedente, Godzilla contro Biollante include vari temi composti da Akira Ifukube, sebbene la maggior parte della musica consiste in brani originali composti da Koichi Sugiyama. La colonna sonora fu orchestrata dal direttore David Howell con la filarmonica di Kansai, benché Howell stesso non aveva mai visto il film, e fu così costretto ad interpretare cosa sarebbe successo nelle varie scene per cui guidava l'orchestra.[7]
I can never find the name of the artist who did the poster art for the entire Heisei series and most of the millenium but his work is outstanding. I about died as a kid when I walked into the video store and saw that vhs cover for Biollante. I wish Mechagodzilla 1993 looked like his poster with a more powerful 1974 like robot and a Rodan that resembles his original (and still best 1956) look.
As much as I love the covers for Godzilla vs Mothra: Battle for Earth, and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II being my favorite cover of all time I really feel like the author never saw these movies or stories before drawing it since the Godzilla vs Mothra one looks like it was made with the showa movie in mind and the Mechagodzilla on GvsMGII looks like a more badass version of the showa era's version moreso than the one we got in 92.

It is then, that the Futurians' true malevolent intentions are exposed: The story they tell Japanese of 1990s is a lie. The true history of the future is that despite damages by Godzilla, Japan with her giant corporations would grow into a corrupt super power that affects the future world greatly; King Ghidorah is a controlled weapon the Futurians made to damage Japan further, in order to keep her from becoming a super power. However Wilson and Grenchiko are more ambitious. They want to use King Ghidorah to delete Japan from history completely. Emmy disagrees with that. She reprogrammed M11 and leaves the mother ship to tell Terasawa the truth.
Kosuke Toyohara is a Japanese film actor born in Tokyo, Japan on September 25th, 1965. He played the Super X-2 controller in the 1989 film Godzilla vs. Biollante. In 1991, he played Kenichiro Terasawa in the sequel film Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.
