I bought Rimworld through GOG.com because I didn't have a steam account and that was where I had bought some other games previously. I'm now realising just how much of a mistake that was as I can't use any of the mods :(
Is it worth me trying to learn how to install the mods without Steam? I'm just worried that I will accidentally prevent rimworld from running properly? I'm guessing that, if I wanted to use the mods through Steam, then I would have to buy the game a second time?
Steam Workshop is a popular platform used by gamers to discover, share, and download mods for their favorite games. It provides a convenient way to access a wide range of user-created content, enhancing the gameplay experience. However, not everyone has access to Steam or may prefer to download mods without using the Steam client.
In this article, we will explore alternative methods that allow you to download Steam Workshop mods without using Steam. Whether you are a non-Steam user or simply want to access mods outside the client, these methods will help you enhance your gaming experience.
By bypassing the traditional Steam Workshop route, you can easily install mods for games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, Cities: Skylines, and many others without the need for a Steam account or client. This gives you more flexibility and opens up the world of modding to a wider audience.
3. Independence: Downloading mods without Steam gives you independence from the limitations and requirements imposed by the Steam platform. You are not bound by any specific terms and conditions set by Steam Workshop, giving you the freedom to explore diverse modding options.
Using mod management tools provides an efficient and organized way to download, install, and manage Steam Workshop mods without the need for the Steam client. The built-in mod library and integration with external mod repositories make it easy to discover and install mods for a variety of games, all within a unified interface.
5. Game Updates: Keep in mind that game updates can sometimes render mods incompatible or cause them to stop functioning correctly. Before updating your game, check if your mods have been updated or if they are still compatible with the new game version. This ensures a smooth transition without encountering mod-related issues.
I'm testing a mod I've created and I'd like to test it on dedicated mutiplayer server without uploading the mod to the Steam Workshop. But I can't figure out how. Anyone know how to install a non-workshop mod on a dedicated server?
If you are pulling the mod from the Steam Workshop (or using one of those Steam Workshop downloaders) you want the source files under Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\108600\WorkshopID\mods\BLAHMOD
Only add the non-workshop mods to the "Mods=" line. If you are running a non-steam server you'll have to copy any workshop mods to you /Zomboid/mods folder and list them all by Mod ID on the "Mods=" line as well.
I recently did some research about installing mods in general, and then with the help of others in this forum, figured out how to get Conan mods from the Steam workshop for a non-Steam install. For the benefit of those in my Discord channel, I collated the instructions into a comprehensive solution that can be accessed from beginning to end, all in one place, and put them into a discussion thread.
This way all you ever have to do is use your mod updater batch file and your game will automatically use the latest mods without you having to copy any files, since your modlist is directly set to them.
As such I pointed out that, in my opinion, at the very least it needs some caveats mentioned like the fact that a majority of them are on steam and the nexus ones are outdated and whoever chooses to install from there should triple-check the update date of said mod (this ofc applies to steam too, the difference being that the majority available on the nexus are already outdated).
- Physically MOVED the steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\107410\ to my new SSD and then created a SYMBOLIC LINK back to CONTENT folder. Opened SWS and subscribed to new mods, it all downloaded into that folder (bunch of numbers) sorted by date. Goto Launcher, it does not detect any SWS mods.
I unplugged my PC from the router and into the WAN adapter directly (no firewall) and I can log into Steam, subscribe, unsubscribe mods, launch ARMA 3 and play online games but A3L still does not show any workshop mods.
Edit - opened A3L, goto network games and attempting to join a random Life server (I don't have any of these mods), click on download from steam and it is now showing ARMA 3 Afterlife MOD from workshop is downloading in STEAM client. 1.1 GB. Waiting for it download and will see if I can join that server. If it works, then it must be recreating the !workshop folder links!
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Arma 3 to see if that would work including deleting the workshop mods folder 107410 so steam can redownload and reset that folder, which it does but the launcher still does not list the mods.
If there are specific ports I need to be aware of please let me know. Right now, I have to manually move all the existing workshop mods over to the @folders to keep it available. Not keen on renaming and moving 200 GB over.
Currently, the above method is the easiest one which is fully working but if you are looking for an alternative then SteamCMD is a great option. One thing which I really like is that it always works because of here the official steam client is used. In a nutshell, this part also talks about downloading steam workshop mods without subscribing to steam or having an active account. Moreover, you can also get mod files for cracked games using the same steps.
Although activating a mod on steam is very easy, just you have to Settings > Select Options and then select the Mods tab. But for the offline version of games, you have to perform some other steps to activate them.
Yes, there are plenty of mods that are available for free. But there are also some premium mods that need to be subscribed or purchased from the official website. Apart from that, you can also use SteamCMD or other third-party tools to get them without any cost.
In Afterbirth+ and Repentance, having any enabled mod will disable the ability to unlock any achievements to encourage new players to play the game without any. To enable unlocking achievements with mods enabled, you need to defeat Mom at least once with all of your mods disabled. If your mods disappear after installing them (only on cracked versions of AB+), it is greatly recommended to defeat Mom's Heart once.
Democracy 4 already supports steam workshop for mods, so you can log into steam, browse the uploaded mods (uploaded from within the game by other players), subscribe to them, and have the m automatically installed. You them have an in-game control panel that lets you toggle mods on and off, so you can keep them on your hard drive but decide if they are active or not.
This is going to be great news for people who buy from the humble store, direct from me, the epic store or GoG. This means they will have to access to most of the mods steam players have. I like the idea that players get the same game regardless where they buy it, and do not like being locked in to one provider. This is why I have my own in-game achievements system for all players. (The steam copies just read my data and then mirror the achievements in the steam UI). FWIW, I also am planning on adding the achievements for the epic-store UI soon too.
I am still a bit confused about this topic. I have the GOG version of democracy 4. I found the mod folder fine but getting the mods themselves downloaded is my issue. All the mods seem to be on the steam workshop and steam does not want me to download them without buying the steam game.
Modding, if you do not know what you are doing, can be dangerous. DO NOT download files on the internet without certainty of what it is and what it does. Somebody may claim that a website has a mod, but instead it will install a virus on your computer. Below is a list of sources where it is recommended to find Civilization VI mods.
I started steam offline and when I loaded the world, it gave me an error that steam was offline and I needed to alter the settings in my game to offline (I had it set so a friend could join me). Once this was done, it DID LOAD the world with all the mods.
I am guessing that this changed in one of the builds because originally the game would go to Steam Workshop to verify that the mods were still active on the workshop. It did not do that this time. I am so very very happy. I do not have a really dependable internet connection and sometimes I cannot connect to steam.
I have Euro Truck Simulator 2, and I got it from steam.I want to use my mods that I have downloaded from ETS2.LT they're .scs files.I do not have a "mods" folder so I made one and put the .scs files in there, and then I opened ETS2 and nothing.
The easiest way to install mods is to subscribe to them on the Steam Workshop. Once they are downloaded you can find them in the "Mods" menu from the Main Menu in-game. You can also use mods that you get outside of the Steam Workshop - put the mod .pak file in "\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Mods" and it will be available in the in-game mods menu.
