Hello,
I'm looking for some information regarding "continuous nebulization" with a ventilator. (LTV 1150) I have a tracheotomy.
I'm ventilated 24/7 and I need better portable humidification when I'm going around with my power wheelchair. When sleeping I use a Fisher & Paykel heated solution which work fine but it is not portable and cannot be made portable.
A simple HME doesn't cut it for me. Dryness causes me all kinds of issues, from thick secretions to losing my voice.
A potential solution I was looking at is using "continuous nebulization" with a high capacity nebulizer bottle and a portable compressor. The compressor would be powered by my wheelchair, it's a 12V device.
I found nebulizer bottles that can provide up to 8 hours of continuous nebulization. This is usually used to deliver medication but using stérile water it could also provide humidity.
I would use a simple antibacterial hydrophobic filter instead of an HME to avoid the humidity going into the whole circuit.
I've found supplies that could help me achieve this. However, I'm missing a piece of the puzzle. I need a "T" connector to plug the high capacity nebulizer bottle to the ventilator's circuit.
Perhaps you have an idea where I could find a connector to achieve this?
See below the hardware I've been looking at using.
And anyone is aware of someone using such a system today? I understand that my case is very rare and most people can use an HME just fine. However, having a neuromuscular disease (Muscular Dystrophy) that limit greatly my cough, when I have secretions I have a very hard time getting them out. Humidity helps keep this in check.
If you have any suggestions for other hardware/components/solution, please share, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks!
