I am in the group but not as much traffic in this Site as I would like.
Anyway, welcome Loa.
I have a trilogy 200,  a Stellar 150, and a cough assist E70.    And an older Cough Assist ca3000.
Right now worried about power outage backup. Have a way of running both vents in an auto through the "cigarette " lighter , a power generator, and a separate larger marine type auto battery. The marine type is important as they are designed to take full discharges and then recharge cycles often.

I cannot last more than a few minutes on my own, and I am not very mobile at all, so being alone a bit scary.

Hi,
What type generator do you have at home? My sister is completely vent dependent too, similarly couldn't last more than a few minutes. She has two LTV 1150 vents,  and 2 big square batteries that look like car batteries, very heavy. But we have no generator. We rent our home so nothing can be permanently installed. I hate to be sexist, but I'm a middle-aged woman who has limited electrical understanding. Can anyone explain simply yet thoroughly how a portable generator would work, the approximate cost, and where I'd get one? I'd obviously have to hire a handyman to install it.
Thanks!

Thank you so much!

I understand the power outage concern, we have a generator and a while back when we were doing some other remodeling had it hardwired into the house, so that we can just switch the circuit breaker to a special mode during power outages that runs my room and a few other select areas, like the refrigerators.

My old ventilator had a cigarette lighter adapter and ran off large batteries as well, which were clunky to deal with.  I really like that the batteries for VOCSN are contained within the dimensions of the device itself.  They do not last quite as long as the large battery (time depends on therapies being used and intensity of settings), but they are easily swapped out and it is easy to have several sets.  They can be charged on a desktop charger separate from VOCSN.  With multiple sets of these you can have a battery runtime that is as long as you want or need to carry out activities away from power sources.

Have you heard of GPB breathing?  It is a technique that you can use during a disconnect, or power failure if needed, which can help reduce some of that anxiety.

Thank you for the welcome!

Thanks for details on your back-up Loa.

We have backup batteries but need another Marine large battery to give more safe time. I understand one can recharge at a local  fire hall and rotate if it is a long power failure.

We do have a 3500 watt portable generator but it is hard to start.  Have to practice more for a larger power outage.  Like getting a more powerful charger and using the generator to charge larger Marine batteries. Maybe also to run power in and just some ciruits to operate selected items like furnace fan and microwave.and a few lights. And maybe another generator with electric start. Too bad portable generators dont run on natural gas.  We dont have the room beside our house really for a permanent set up. ......and they want  $20,000 canadian.. just to install it. The Generator extra.

I have heard of that breathing method ....should look it up on Net.
