TamoGraph Site Survey is an application for performing Wi-Fi site surveys and RF planning. It supports 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11n, 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g wireless networks. TamoGraph is developed by TamoSoft, a privately held New Zealand company founded in 1998[1] that specializes in network analysis software.[2][3][4]
TamoGraph is used for measuring and visualizing such WLAN characteristics[5] as signal strength, signal-to-noise ratio, signal-to-interference ratio, TCP and UDP throughput rates, access point vendor, encryption type,[citation needed] etc.[6] Visualizations are overlaid on floor plans[7] or, in case of outdoor surveys, on site maps that can be imported from one of the online map services. Data is collected by a portable computer using a compatible Wi-Fi adapter.[8][unreliable source?]
We've released TamoGraph Site Survey 8.0 for Windows and macOS. We've added support for the new 6 GHz Wi-Fi band (Wi-Fi 6E). This includes predictive modeling as well as passive and active surveys. In the Windows version, support for 6 GHz passive surveys requires a 6E Wi-Fi adapter, which currently includes Intel AX210/AX211/AX411 (in the macOS version, support for 6 GHz passive surveys is coming soon). TamoGraph now supports two new USB spectrum analyzers, WiPry 2500x (2.4/5 GHz) and WiPry Clarity (2.4/5/6 GHz) by Oscium. We've also improved DWG file import, including the latest DWG formats (up to Autodesk AutoCAD 2023), and made a few other enhancements.
TamoGraph is a powerful and user-friendly wireless site survey software tool for collecting, visualizing, and analyzing 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax Wi-Fi data. Wireless network deployment and maintenance requires the use of a professional RF site survey tool that facilitates otherwise time-consuming and very complex tasks, such as ongoing analysis and reporting of signal strength, noise and interference, channel allocation, data rates, etc.
In a word, wireless site surveys are necessary because radio wave propagation is difficult to predict, especially in non-open space environments. It is virtually impossible to consider all the variables that might affect the health and performance of your WLAN. Changing conditions, even something as seemingly minor as a notebook equipped with a legacy 802.11g adapter that your new employee connected to the office wireless network, might seriously affect the WLAN performance. In addition, considering the wide proliferation of wireless infrastructure, factors such as interference from nearby WLANs play a very important role. This is why regular site surveys that are conducted with a professional tool are important.
To perform passive surveys, you must have a compatible Wi-Fi adapter. You will need to use a special driver that comes with this product to enable the monitoring features of your compatible Wi-Fi adapter. You will be prompted to install it using an installation wizard. If your adapter is not on the list, take advantage of our special offer and get a compatible adapter free of charge!
To perform active surveys, you can use any modern Wi-Fi adapter. However, active surveys give you only a small part of the WLAN picture. To get comprehensive information, passive surveys are mandatory.
To perform predictive surveys, no Wi-Fi adapter is required. In predictive surveys, commonly referred to as "RF planning", Wi-Fi characteristics are predicted for the virtual environment model created by the user.
So what is a site survey? A SS is basically creating a map that shows different information corresponding to the environment where you will/have installed wireless equipment. This information often includes: signal level, signal to noise ratio, signal to interference ratio, and expect physical rates.
Passive surveys are done with a supported wireless NIC. I used an Proxim ORiNOCO 8494. The software is run, you load a floor plan image, set the scale of the image, then click start. It is as easy as clicking on the map where you are, walking, clicking when you turn, then clicking stop once you are done. At this point it will list all of the found APs on the left. You can choose which ones you want to actively see.
Active surveys are done by loading software on a server somewhere in your network. The client application will connect and run quality tests to the server while you walk around. This will show you real world utilization information.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on it but am wondering if anyone has any other recommendations or warnings. I mainly need it for stop and go surveys to generate a customer friendly report at job completion. Not so much for planning. I used to have ekahau v8 at my last job but don't have that kind of budget nowadays especially as they seem to have moved to a rental option. I have the wi-spy antennas from metageek already. If anyone knows how to avoid drawing walls and maybe import cad files directly that would be huge.
Two license types are available for TamoGraph Site Survey: Standard and Pro.
A NetResident license consists of two components:
Because TamoGraph requires specific Wi-Fi adapter models for 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac passive surveys that may or may not be available in your local store, we offer a high quality USB adapter that allows you to perform passive surveys (on all Wi-Fi channels worldwide.) This option also includes a USB flash drive with installation software.
Add a new dimension to your site surveys. Detect and identify sources of interference by using an ultra-portable 2.4 and 5 GHz USB-based Wi-Spy DBx spectrum analyzer by MetaGeek. When you use Wi-Spy DBx, you can view spectrum data visualizations in TamoGraph in real time or add them to your reports.
To make the most of your TamoGraph software, we highly recommend a number of add-ons for site surveying and spectrum analysis listed below. All of the add-ons listed below include free ground shipping to US and Canada. You will be able to select other shipping options during checkout.
Using these tools, you can perform passive, active, and predictive site surveys, as well as RF spectrum surveys. Enjoy comprehensive WLAN analysis with easy-to-understand visualization of signal level, interference, AP coverage areas, data rates, network issues, and much more!
As a registered customer, you are entitled to free upgrades during one year from the date of purchase. It means that for one year you can download and install the latest versions of the software from our site, and the license file(s) that you received from us when you purchased the software will work with the latest product version.
Adapter selection is crucial, because a slow/weak adapter yields too-conservative results, while a fast/sensitive adapter produces overly-optimistic surveys. Using adapter(s) representative of your own WLAN is a survey best practice. TamoGraph can use multiple adapters to scan N channels simultaneously, but those adapters must be of the same type. To survey with different adapters, walkabouts must be repeated, but TamoGraph can export and merge independently-measured results for consolidated analysis and reporting.
