Since you mention installing the latest adobe reader I think you mixed up some software (both from adobe)
What you need is the flash player (not the pdf reader).
It can be found here (link below) and indeed you need to watch out what options to leave checked to avoid crap-ware being installed alongside.
If you continue to have problems with removal of the fake flash player update pop-up, reset your Microsoft Edge browser settings. Click the Edge menu icon (at the top right corner of Microsoft Edge) and select Settings.

Is there such a thing as a substitute for Adobe Flash Player? I access some research sites that still use Adobe flash player to open pdf's. My browsers - Safari and Firefox - would prompt me to allow flash player to activate and then the files would open. Suddenly, on Jan. 12, flash player will not work anymore and I cannot open the files - they appear to be pdf's, but open with flash player. The website is an archdiocese, They say they are working on a solution. But, it seems like there would be some substotute avialable. So many websites still use flash player. Is there a substitute plug-in? I have found some stand alone media players, such as File Viewer and Elmedia, but can find nothing that plugs into my browser. And, cannot find a way to click and drag these files - which look like pdf's - to a stand alone media player. Hope someone has a suggestion.
Oh, really? You are saying that even if I could find a flash player substitute, Adobe is somehow blocking any replacement app? Did not know that was possible. Thanks. I guess that means websites that still use flash player software will become inoperable.
This weekend I might end dealing with ldd command on that flash pluging and these several pages of libraries missing, I had watch several scripts that might read then run/download/install these missing libraries but mostly fail, due some name resolves, I had been thinking on emulate the removed flash player installer on antiX lastest ver., Idk if I should try it out in the ver. 23 as beta tester too for other apps/programs.
No, all these tasks need to be done once only. Once installed, all this it will come up within seconds, just like all other programs installed on your PC. Moreover you can port your virtualbox container with the installed antiX system within it, completely installed and set up with all flash games you like to play) even to another PC by simply copying the virtual hard drive file virtualbox creates. If you want to save disk space you can place the container to an USB pen drive (USB-stick) rather than to the built in hdd. (The virtual hard drive file will take 4 GB 12 GB file size, depending how much programs you plan to install in it. You may want to strip the system down so it boots directly to firefox rather than to default antiX desktop. The path how to achieve this was discussed some time ago here in forum. Then you can purge all unneeded components and might be fine with a virtual hdd size of 1.5 3 GB already, resulting in a more handy vdi container).
