Greetings from Bangkok! It was great to see so many of you at the
SUMERNET 10 year anniversary event last week. I’m Pin from the
SUMERNET Secretariat, and I will be helping Agus keep you updated with
news and opportunities for you and your organizations and partners.
1. USAID ASEAN-U.S. Science and Technology Fellows Program 2016
(deadline: 21 February 2016)
The ASEAN-U.S. Science and Technology Fellows Program will select and
fund fellows in the ASEAN region to be embedded in government
ministries in their home countries to advance science-based
decision-making. The thematic areas are biodiversity; clean energy;
and fisheries and coastal management. Applicants should have a
master's degree, and preferably a PhD. Each fellow will receive a
stipend of US$1,200 per month for 12 months. Fellows will also
participate in multiple events for professional training and

2. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund call for Letters of
Inquiry, Indo-Burma Hotspot (deadline: 7 March 2016)
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is designed to
safeguard Earth’s biologically richest and most threatened regions,
known as biodiversity hotspots. A fundamental goal is to ensure civil
society is engaged in biodiversity conservation. The Indo - Burma
Hotspot comprises all non - marine parts of Cambodia, Lao PDR,
Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, plus parts of southern China . IUCN
(International Union for Conservation of Nature), Myanmar
Environmental Rehabilitation - conservation Network (MERN), and CEPF
are pleased to invite Letters of Inquiry (LoIs) from non-government
organisations, community groups, private companies and other civil
society organisations, for projects in Myanmar. Please note that
preference will be given to projects that are the closest fit to the

3. European Commission call for proposals on Participation of
Civil Society in Forest Governance (deadline: 8 March 2016)
The European Commission calls for proposals to strengthen the
contribution of non-state actors to improving forest governance,
sustainable forest management, and the contribution of forests to
development. Specifically, EC aims to strengthen the role of civil
society to engage in the processes about FLEGT VPA (Forest Law
Enforcement, Governance and Trade - Voluntary Partnership Agreement)
and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest
Degradation). Funding will be allocated among the following regions:
Congo Basin; Western Africa; Amazon Basin; Mesoamerican Corridor;
Mekong Region; and Southeast Asia and Pacific. The program is open to
nonprofit non-state organizations in the EU and in the developing
countries listed in the announcement. Grants will range from €2
million to €6 million, varying by regions and cost shares. Please see

4. ASEAN – U.S. Science Prize for Women (deadline: 1 April 2016)
The U.S. Agency for International Development and U.S. Mission to
ASEAN, in partnership with Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) and UL, aim to strengthen ASEAN science and technical capacity
through an annual ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women (“Prize”). The
2016 Prize will provide a promising, ASEAN-based, early to mid-career
woman scientist whose research focuses on sustainable energy with
recognition from ASEAN and the United States government for their
academic and professional achievements. Along with her recognition,
the winner will receive a $25,000 USD award and separate provision of
travel/lodging to attend an award ceremony at an October ASEAN
