I have just received my Surface Pro 8 running Windows 11 that I pre-ordered. After setup, Windows Terminal does not appear to be installed. Therefore, I went to the Microsoft Store to download the application. I have downloaded it, and it works as expected, but it does not appear in the Win + X menu (right-click windows logo), see figure 1.

UNIX/Linux applications with a graphical user-interface require the use of special display software when connecting from a remote location. Two methods are currently supported: X-windows and VNC. X-windows (X11) is recommended for most users, but VNC is useful when certain applications fail to run properly under X-windows, or when a persistent connection to the remote display is required. See Using VNC for information about VNC.

X-windows is the native display technology on UNIX and Linux systems and is designed for networked use. Because secure connections are required in the Stanford timeshare environment, SSH must be used to encrypt the X-windows connection; most SSH clients have built-in support for X display forwarding.

I was not able to get either Xming-6-9-0-31-setup or vcxsrv-64.1.20.8.1.installer to work with windows 10 Ubuntu bash command line, I tried using commands like export DISPLAY=:0 or export DISPLAY=localhost:0 it doesn't seem to send it to either of these apps under Windows 10, I was unable to get them to work I also got the message about unable to connection to X server connection refused type message too, I am now trying to use Debian bash command under Windows 10 to see if I have any better luck, the only thing I been able to get X server to run under is Remote Desktop Connection with localhost:3390, I found that info but then under Ubuntu I installed scummvm app and it can't find the path for /etc/games for the app that type of error message when trying to run it, I was able to get the lite shell not gnome to work with that, found a page online on how to do so, otherwise I have no luck making it work without using remote desktop connection that Xming app doesn't seem to work for me. Unless I did something wrong when trying to run it which I don't think I did.

I'm trying desperately to figure out how to cycle through windows in Visual studio code. In Finder, there is a menu item Cycle Through Windows which I use frequently. However, this seems to be a Finder option. So I looked through the global shortcuts (since the requirement is probably the same for many applications) and assigned the Move focus to next window to shift-cmd-F1. This works in Finder and Text Editor, but not in Visual Studio Code. I checked if the key binding is overridden in VSC but I don't think so.

Now to install the S3 graphics driver, start DOSBox again, type
cd windows
setup
You get a screen similar to the initial setup of Windows 3.x. Scroll up to the Display driver and hit enter. Now scroll all the way down to "Other (requires disk....)" and hit enter again. Enter the path to the S3 drivers "c:\drivers\s3" and hit enter.
You can now choose on of the S3 drivers. The highest working resolution is 1024x768 at 64k colors. For playing games a much lower resolution is enough. Some can't even handle more than 256 colors and will look odd.

- to change graphics drivers, I'd advise exiting Windows 3.x and then change directory to the Windows directory (cd windows) and run setup.exe.
But beware! Windows 3.x doesn't like it when you change drivers too often and then Setup crashes when you want to load other video drivers. In this case, got the Windows 3.x system directory (\windows\system) and get rid of the "oemX.inf" files (for example "oem0.inf" or "oem1.inf") you don't need.

- When you choose the Tseng drivers when you install Windows, the mouse pointer might not be visible. To fix this go back to the DOSBox prompt, change dir to the Windows directory ("cd windows") , run setup again and then choose the VGA or SVGA drivers that come with Windows 3.1x. Start Windows again (your mouse pointer should be visible now) and then run setup from inside Windows to choose the Tseng drivers.

I successfully change my driver, however when I type win to launch windows at the end it says it cannot find a device file that may be needed to windows, and to check the path line in my autoexec.bat file

So I was wondering if there is a Nothing X app for windows? I would like to use the equaliser and the different ANC options on the computer but I cant without the app. Also, I can only find the playstore app but I cannot download it from there.

Unix computers use a protocol called X11 to provide windows-like functionality in Unix applications. This interface is commonly called a graphical user interface or GUI interface. Most Unix applications can be invoked by the user in either an X11 mode (GUI mode using an X-terminal) or a text-based mode that does not use the GUI. Text-based versions of applications will not render graphics, nor will they have the familiar pull-down menus associated with common MS windows applications.

Often users will want to invoke Unix applications from PCs running MS-windows. For simple text-based applications, this is not a problem and can be accomplished using a terminal window in putty, etc. However, users wishing to run Unix applications with GUI interfaces must install emulation software on the PC. Emulation software allows Unix GUI applications to be rendered in an MS windows environment.
