As climate change remains a major threat to long-term growth and prosperity, the IMF has a role to play in helping its members by providing policy advice related to mitigation, adaptation, and transition to a low carbon economy. The IMF also has a role to play in taking steps to advance its own operational sustainability efforts.

The ISO 20121 provided the Fund with a framework and guidance that was flexible and rigorous in measurement and monitoring, enabling the institution to track positive and negative impacts over time and take necessary steps to address them.

A compliant ISO 20121 management system has the flexibility to deliver value consistently, despite no two events being the same and each needing a different approach. This course will show how to maintain conformance with ISO 20121 requirements. Current knowledge about the standard will be reviewed and any gaps closed. The requirements will also be considered in the context of an audit.

Impartiality is the governing principle of how BSI provides its services. Impartiality means acting fairly and equitably in its dealings with people and in all business operations. It means decisions are made free from any engagements of influences which could affect the objectivity of decision making.

As an accredited certification body, BSI Assurance cannot offer certification to clients where they have also received consultancy from another part of the BSI Group for the same management system. Likewise, we do not offer consultancy to clients when they also seek certification to the same management system.

The British Standards Institution (BSI, a company incorporated by Royal Charter), performs the National Standards Body (NSB) activity in the UK. BSI, together with its Group Companies, also offers a broad portfolio of business solutions other than NSB activity that help businesses worldwide to improve results through Standards-based best practice (such as certification, self-assessment tool, software, product testing, information products and training).

ISO 20121:2012 is an international standard for sustainability management systems applied to events, pioneered by the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games London 2012. It assesses the way sustainability is integrated into key decisions at every step of event planning and staging.

The ISO 20121 certification was pioneered by the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games London 2012, which were a catalyst for its development. It has since become one of the sustainability requirements for every Olympic Games, with Rio 2016, PyeongChang 2018, Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 all having been certified. It is also increasingly used by major sports and other event organisers.

The IOC takes a proactive approach to ensure that sustainability is embedded in all aspects of organising the Olympic Games. Leaving a sustainable and positive legacy for the host city and country is a primary, achievable objective for all organisers of the Olympic Games.

"We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition once again and would like to thank everyone who played a pivotal role in helping us get to this point," said Jason Miller, Senior Vice President of Operations. "This achievement speaks to our organizational commitment to sustainability, starting with great leadership at the top led by Jeffrey Lurie and Don Smolenski. Being recertified validates all the hard work, time, and resources we put forth to ensure that our operation is continuously reducing our carbon footprint on the environment."

The objective of the certification process was to provide the Eagles with an independent opinion as to whether their event management system met the criteria for ISO 20121. iCompli Sustainability, a division of BPA Worldwide, performed the independent third-party audit and determined that the work was in accordance with the iCompli protocol and that such work satisfied the ISO standard.

"As we strive to be a global leader in sustainability, our hope is that this recognition encourages others to join us on this journey and pursue ISO 20121 certification," said Norman Vossschulte, Director of Fan Experience, Philadelphia Eagles. "We believe this accreditation serves many benefits and will also help position our city as we collectively seek to be a host site for the 2026 FIFA World Cup."

The Eagles' Go Green program has been internationally recognized for its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly measures. The team has earned LEED Gold status by the U.S. Green Building Council, a GBAC (Global Biorisk Advisory Council) STAR accreditation, and recently became the first U.S. professional sports team to offset team travel emissions through the support of Ocean Conservancy's Blue Playbook. Their progressive approach has enabled them to serve as proud environmental stewards in Philadelphia and beyond.

Specifically, the Head of Sustainability at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, David Stubbs, was looking for a way to make good on the sustainability promises made in the London Games bid.[1]

He raised the issue with the British Standards Institution (BSI) in the UK. This led to the creation of BS 8901:2007 Specification for a sustainable event management system with guidance for use.[2] After a period of review, the second version of BS 8901 was published in 2009.[3]
