Sorry, this email is long overdue but I have a few urgent things to take care of.  My bad!

Man, it was April 1st or April Fool’s Day but sure I was scared more than ever.

For those first VV riders on site, the sights was none of us want to see happen again to our teammates.  Everyone was careful, the speed was fast, but accidents happen at any speed.

Everyone were piled up, it was 1 hour 2 minutes into the ride, roughly a bit past 8 a.m. Fog was still in the air.

I was hoping nobody got a serious injury.  Be it Thomas, Kato, Hoa or Brian & DA.

But lots of bodies were on Santiago road or on the edge mingling with bikes.

Seeing everyone got up one by one and limping to the road side was just the biggest bless.  But heck DA was still there right on the road. We had to worry about car traveling full speed down the road either directions. But heck, captain John and one more (I think it was Hoang) were right there with DA the whole time, on the road!

Hey DA, so glad you had a fast recovery.  I just could not believe how bad you were looking out there.  Welcome home dude! We do need “loud voice” out there…. ;-)

You can see that VeloViet is a great team with awesome members.  They chipped in to help out when teammate are down.  Hat off the VeloViet team!

Bikes can be fixed or bought, best thing now is that everybody is healthy! We can drink "juice" or coffee & smack one another and laugh silly!

I already turned the GoFundMe account to VV leadership this past Monday, whether it is helping DA or fixing Kato/Hoa/Brian/Thomas bikes, it is totally for good cause. Poor Hoa, total his new bike on the first ride, his bike need to be fix so we can put him in front pulling us again! We are just a bunch of friendly, nice, brave and generous guys and gals.

Thanks.

Thank you, Anh Minh.

Glad to hear Anh DA is ok. I was very fortunate to be able to ride around and somehow I didn’t fall.

Nothing would make me feel better than help a little to cover Anh Duc’s Uber ride, and hopefully Hoa’s frame, and Kato & Brian’s wheels, and whatever Cap. John feels appropriate.

First GMR on Sunday for me - should be good weather.

Fellow Velo Viets,

Oopsie accident within a disciplined peloton is always a cause for alarm. It takes a confluence of various factors to trigger a mishap. It’s imminently vital to the longevity of VV to review autopsy of the jarring spill last Sunday in order to caution members ways on how to preempt such infraction. It doesn’t take much to instigate regrettable mayhem.

I deeply owe a debt of gratitude to those who sheltered me from harms while I was unconscious last Sunday. Most notably, Captain John and Hoang acted fast in providing necessary security. While physically battered but somewhat intact, the jolting concussion has caused lingering head trauma. Memory flickers like candle burning in hurricane. Nagging headache persists. Neurologist instructs complete immobility for at least two to three months. All things considered, I feel lucky that fate has spared me much griefs.

Thank you all for your heartened encouragement and thoughtful optimism. We’ll ride again on some bright summer morning when the cool air feels triumphant and the urgency of the season heightens our sense of lust for life.

Stuck on small chainring,

D Au
