Hi all,
Here is the route for this coming Sunday.  It's a whopping 72 miles with 4000ft elevation and it's the hardest route I mapped to train.  If you finish this route riding steady without cramping at the end then you will ride the century like a walk in the park.  I promise.

I want you guys showing up this Sunday with the new kit because I want to take the head shot  for our website http://veloviet.com/index.php/our-team  so put on your make up, brush your hair or whatever :).

Nutrition and Hydration:
Don't wait until Sunday or the big ride to drink or eat then you will be already too late.
1) Eat balance thru out the week.
2) Sleep well to recover your body.
3) I always drink a lot of water everyday and during all day..  If you don't get up at night and do #1 OR your #1 is yellow then you are not drinking enough.
4) Eat and drink every hour on the bike, consume at least 300 calories.

Meeting Place: MSP.
Start: 7 AM on time.
Please show up 15mins. early to get ready.
Distance: 72 miles, Rollings
Break @ Ralph Market mile 45.
Finish: 12 PM.
Brings your cycling supplies.

MSP to PCH Restroom.
Left on Bayside,
L on Campus Dr,
R on Von Karman Ave,
L on Barranca Pkwy,
R on Red Hill Ave
R on Edinger Ave
Edinger will become Irvine Center Dr,
Irvine Center Dr will become Moulton Pkwy,
Moulton Pkwy will become Street of the Golden Lantern,
Break at our usual spot, Ralph Market mile 45.
PCH all the way back.

See you on Sunday.

Probably noon or sooner.  Depending on how fast you climb up.

It depends on whose wheels you plan to stick with.  If you stick with Hoa,  then you may be back at the parking lot by 11. I plan to finish around 12:30pm.

Quy,
Here is what I think.  If you stick with Hoa, you finish by 10 bc you will blow up within 30 mins then you will be by yourself another 30 then give up and turn around.  Or you will finish by 1:30pm, blow up, grind and ride slower to the top.

Ride at your own pace or pick a wheel of someone who is a little faster than you.

With all the joking aside, I know you need to get back at certain time.  So let's say you need to be home at 11am, ride up 90 mins, drop down 30, ride home an hour.

You will be fine. It is not a hard climb with an average of 4-5%. You don’t need a map because it is a one way up and down.

Quy,

Since this is your first time, be very careful even on the way up.  Even though it's mostly climbing, there are a few sections where you will descend while turning corners.  When you turn, try to stay in your own lane because you will not see cars coming up in the opposite direction. First time I climbed GMR, I almost had a head on collision with a car.  So be careful.

I plan to take very easy this Sunday because my ass still sore and haven’t healed yet. Just follow my wheels and you will be fine.

If it’s just GMR to the shack, the ride profile 5-7% grade straight to the top, 2500ft.  Even for a beginner, it’s about 2 hours round trip.

I was just there last night.  Couple safety warnings aside from the obvious:

1) on the descent, take your time and be conservative, especially if it’s your first time. A couple of the turns are negative decreasing radius turns.  Meaning, they tighten the further into the turn you go.

2) Rock debris is always unpredictable.  We live in SoCal which sits on tectonic plates.  Even if the road is clean when you go up, that doesn’t mean the road will be clean when you go down, so watch for loose rocks, big and small.  Even if the debris isn’t big enough to make you fall, they can still puncture and blow your tire, which WILL make you fall, asleep specially if you are leaned over going through a turn.

3) be mindful of wind gusts, especially going down.  No worse feeling than being leaned over 10-15 degrees in a fast turn and a wind gust comes along and wobbles the front wheel.

4) lastly, enjoy the views (if it’s not smoggy). One of my favorite places to ride.

Cheers, and keep it in the big ring ;-)

Hello,

Anh Phuc (twin brother) lost his Orange Oakley during the ride on GMR today. Please let me know if you found it.

Thanks
