hello everyone,

we've begun to receive shipments from our suppliers for velosynth
release #001! yesterday we got packages from digikey and sparkfun:

http://velosynth.tumblr.com/post/779038818/shipment-from-digikey-the-hall-effect-sensors
http://velosynth.tumblr.com/post/779047516/shipment-from-sparkfun-a-huge-bag-of-ultra

just a few more packages to receive then we can begin building the pre-
assembled units, from which we'll create the documentation for the
kits. also, here's another reminder to collect the items listed on the
getting started page on the wiki. a few items have been added to the
list since the last kickstarter update, so it's probably worth giving
it another look:

http://wiki.velosynth.com/index.php?title=Getting_started

granted that the rest of the packages get here on time, we're still on-
schedule for a mid-july delivery. i'll be in contact with the local
portland crew about arranging a kit building party in the coming weeks
as well.

stay gold,

greetings,

here's another update on the status of release #001. we have received
shipments from all of our vendors with the exception of modern device,
who are providing the jeenode microcontrollers and breadboard modules.
since each velosynth unit can hold 4 modules and we have a
distribution of 12 kits in this release, that's a total of 48
breadboards. that's apparently more than they had in stock, so we're
stuck waiting until they can deliver. i've spoken with paul badger
from modern device and the vibe is that they'll ship next week.
fingers crossed!

so, our delivery timeline will be pushed back a bit towards the end of
july. apologies for this delay! regardless, we're still chugging along
with the documentation. so far, all of the core modules have been
documented:

http://wiki.velosynth.com/index.php?title=Assembly_-_Controller_Module
http://wiki.velosynth.com/index.php?title=Assembly_-_Oscillator_Module
http://wiki.velosynth.com/index.php?title=Assembly_-_Amplifier_Module

if anyone has any questions, concerns, or feedback please don't
hesitate to shout it out. hope everyone is doing well!

cheers,

mfelix@EFFALO

hello,

we *almost* have all the parts we need! last week we received the
jeenode microcontrollers from modern device, so now all that remains
are the breadboards, which i have been assured are on the way soon.
the remainder of parts have been assembled in recycled bags and are
ready to go once the breadboards arrive.

this past weekend we finished building one of the two pre-assembled
units and took some photographs for the enclosure documentation:

thanks to everyone for being so patient! if you have any concerns or
questions, please let us know.

take care,

word,

just today we received a huge box full of 50 tiny-format breadboards
from modern device, so we finally have all the parts in hand. now it's
a matter of getting everything in boxes, detangling some velcro, and
some final patching on the pre-assembled units.

we hope to hand-deliver everything to the local portland crew and will
be shipping everything else via usps or fedex.

important note for kit builders —› the speed sensor cable is made from
one half of a 6 foot, 3.5mm stereo cable (like the kind that connects
speakers to your computer). we'd like to ask that everyone source
these cables themselves; they're easy to find (in small quantities)
and we can't justify paying for something that can, in most cases, be
found in a desk drawer or thrift store. regardless, we do have a
*limited* amount of these on hand if anyone can't source them locally,
please just let us know.

hope everyone is doing well,

hello!

release #001 is finally out the door! we spent the day putting things
in boxes and printing shipping labels.

we'll be contacting the portland folk individually to arrange a time
and place for hand-delivery.

excited,

hello release #001 people,

how is the kit build going? please don't hesitate to ask for help or
share your work!

well, not. i'm still trying to finish my monome first ...

i bought some of the supplies to make it, and am really looking
forward to programming it [generative music is very interesting to
me]. but it will prolly be spring before i spin it out in the open ...

I've got mine mostly assembled.

My tiny-usb is mostly stuck on my makerbot, so I'm trying to figure out
how to use a normal Arduino as the programmer, instead of buying or
hacking a cable for it.

I had an idea about using a waveshield or something simlar to play samples.

I like your bigger dome. How big were your brackets, Did you have
problems with them splitting?

awesome! good to hear people are making some progress. everything should be fairly straightforward with the exception of the synthesizer system, which is a bit temperamental. so please don't hesitate to ask for help!

Hi,
Wondering what the current state of velosynth is? I tried to find
the wiki, but it seems dead. I was hoping that there would be some sort
of documentation by now. Spring is almost upon us here in the great
white north it's time to dust off my bike and what better entrance than
to have a synth squealing as I ride.

hey nils (and everyone else)

the wiki is back up now! checkout: http://wiki.velosynth.com

as for where the project stands, i haven't heard of anyone who's been able to put one together successfully. some of our analysis from the first release has been documented here: http://velosynth.tumblr.com/post/3777475869/release-001-afterthoughts

we'll continue to work on the project at our own pace while seeking funding and grants for more expedited research. the biggest hurdle is the synthesizer, either a custom circuit needs to be developed or an alternate method needs to be pursued... we are considering solenoids to create tapping rhythms against bicycle tubes as one viable option.

if anyone needs any help with their build, just holler! the first batch of units have a finicky synthesizer, but it's capable to wrangling if you're patient enough.
