Dear Friends and Loved One's
2014 finds us in Nepal and entering our 10th year on the road with a sign of relief. 2013 was the worst year we've experienced since we 1st started cycle touring together in 1996 and the year started off so terribly for us that every morning for the 1st month we awoke with a feeling of dread as to what the day would bring.
Having said that, while the year will be remembered as a series of bad news, bad events and obstacles, at the same time we experienced some of the highlights of our journey to date and not just a few, the year was packed with them.
2013 started with the snows and Tibetan New Year celebrations (not forgetting the police clampdowns) on the Tibetan plateau, continued with the incomparable Karakhorum Highway and the unsurpassable hospitality of the Pakistani people, passionately hating and adoring India in the same breathe, leaving a part of our hearts in the Ladakh Himalayas and feeling as though we'd just taken a medication course (or maybe a large dose of Valium!!!) on entering Nepal. Each and everyone of them one of a lifetime experiences.
Without doubt the year could be summarised as extreme swings of the pendulum. Would we go through it all again? Without a doubt.
