We're now officially on the southern half of the planet as we
crossed the equatorial line a couple of days ago and had the pleasure of
standing in both hemispheres simultaneously!
Now we're in the town of Bukittinggi
(Indonesian for "high hill") - famous not just for the stunning
mountain scenery (it's surrounded by 3 volcanoes, one - Mount Marapi
is still active) but also for the distinctive Minangkabau roof architecture. At
930 m above sea level we're enjoying the cool climate :-)
Undecided as to whether to head down to the coast
via Padang (Richard's rear cone is loose and we fear we need it to be replaced
& Padang is the only city for some way that may have a bike shop with a suitable
replacement (then again - it may not!) or continue through the mountains as far
as Sungaipenuh where we'd have no choice but to come back down to the coast as
the road runs out!
