Ouch!  I've ridden with Dane.  I hope that he heals quickly and well.

Dane Adkinson, my friend and a sometimes Velocity participant, crashed at the ACA Armadillo ride and ended up with a spriral break of his femur.  His front end skidded out on him on a left turn.   He said he wasn't going particularly fast, and thinks perhaps he had a low front tire that either rolled on him or else let his rim hit the pavement.   Jimmy at Freewheeling was there manning Freewheeling's bike repair station and took the bike to the shop.  I'll look at it tomorrow and see if I can tell anything. 

Prior to surgery, the doctor told us he had the "Queen Mother of all broken femurs" and feared there were too many pieces to even try to reassemble them.   Turns out it wasn't quite that bad, as his muscle conditioning helped keep the fragments in place, and  they were able to put  all the pieces back together.  He will have a rod in his leg. 

In response to the inevitable cycling question "when can I get back on my bike?"  the doctor said "right now we'll be  looking for some signs of healing over the next few months and then we'll reassess."

Dane's at Seton now and will to home tomorrow.
