recently I got a task to migrate the back end of an access database to oracle (the front end should still remain in access), I need an odbc connection for that and on the PC I am working on I don't have any administrative privilages. Whenever I am trying to add an Oracle ODBC driver an error message appears stating that I need an Oracle(tm) Client + some network ingredients first. The ODBC I am choosing from the list of currently available is : Microsoft ODBC for Oracle.
oracle odbc driver for oracle 11g download
Hi,
you have great solution. I am new to Toad Data Point.... just know enough to set up my ODBC using Oracle driver since we have oracle database. I was able to see the feature on your screenshot but TNSname and SQL editor both are grayed out.... but I was still able to set it up for one of the connections and able to access oracle database at the beginning.....
not sure what happened now when I right click on the oracle connection and properties I don't see the dialog box any more and even if I try to set up a new connection and select oracle for the group I don't see the middle section of login or advance tab. Can you help on that?
yes I was trying to install Oracle in OraDB12Home1(64 bit) but I think it was wrong driver and was installed so I ignored it and just used the old one I had Oracle in OraDB11Home1(64 bit), however, I installed first before I configured my first connection so not sure what cause it to all of the sudden not available. I check control panel and no new oracle driver was installed even for me to uninstall, looks like Path for Oracle is good and first Oracle connection is still working fine but I just could not get property dialog box of existing one open to see how I set it up or even new connection is not showing me all the log in or advance tabs once I select Oracle
"I finally got it to work. I've concluded that the instant client downloads don't work for Win2k8 R2. The following worked:
download the full client for oracle 11.2.0.1.0 for 64 bit windows and install
download the full client for oracle 11.2.0.1.0 for 32 bit windows and install
Use the odbc administrator in the syswow64 directory to create a DSN pointing to oracle.
Works fine."
To uninstall Oracle Software and the ODBC driver, locate the Universal Installer application. You may find this in the Windows menu under Oracle - OraClient10g_home, or you may use the Setup.exe file from C:\oracle10g\10203_client_vista-win7\.
1. Run the Universal Installer
2. Select the Deinstall Products button
3. On the Inventory screen, Contents tab, tick the box next to any OraClient10g_home that is listed. If no homes are listed, tick the box for Show empty homes.
4. Select the Remove button.
5. On the Confirmation screen, select the Yes button.
6. When you return to the Inventory screen, select the Close button.
7. On the Welcome screen, select Cancel and exit the installer.
8. Restart your workstation.
9. After restarting, locate the folder where Oracle was installed (should be C:\oracle).
10. Delete the oracle folder. If prompted for administrator permissions, choose continue.
11. Restart your workstation again.
I am trying to connect labview(database connectivity tool) with oracle database, the problem is that when I am using UDL connection, the open connection function doesnt't give error, even the test connection is successful , but when I try to use other function, labview is giving error saying that ODBC driver is expired. I have attached the print screen with this message.
When connecting to an installation of Oracle as metadata, it is imperative that the ODBC driver is configured to use the character set parameters as the Oracle metadata installation. This is controlled through the IANAAppCodePage option in the odbc.ini file.
The unixODBC Driver Manager provides the odbcinst, odbc_config, and isql command line utilities used to configure and test the driver. Using odbcinst or odbc_config utilities, we can locate the unixODBC Driver Manager files location to pass driver information to create the DSN:
From the above output, we can see two files (odbcinst.ini / odbc.ini) that we need to modify to enable the drivers we want to use. Basically, odbcinst.ini is a registry and configuration file for ODBC drivers in an environment, while odbc.ini is a registry and configuration file for ODBC DSNs (Data Source Names).
5. Configure the psqlODBC driver libraries in ODBC Driver file odbcinst.ini (create it if it doesn't exist) and add the lines below to the bottom of the file. These lines makes an entry for the driver:
6. Create a Data Source Name (DSN) in the odbc.ini file; that driver manager reads this file to determine how to connect to the database using driver details specified in odbcinst.ini:
I am having the same issue - I have used the oracle:jdbc driver, and the login params for jdbc:oracle:thin: //domain:/service, and still cannot connect. Which one of the jdbc:oracle drivers works with oracle 11.1.0.1?
Hi Jeff,
I have installed the unixODBC and oracle client as per your post . I have set the odbc.ini ,odbcinst.ini and bashrc as well .
When i try to do isql ,I get the below error
ora12514 tns:listener does not currently know of the services requested in connect descriptor.
In the first example below, isql will search /etc/odbc.ini for "[ODBC]". unixODBC will then use the Oracle 11g ODBC driver defined in /etc/odbcinst.ini to establish a connection. The ServerName in /etc/odbc.ini tells the Oracle driver to reference the MOAB tnsnames entry in /etc/oracle/tnsnames.ora for connection parameters.
