All-Valley Veg Group Picnic - Saturday 9/29

Where: Mt. Sugarloaf Reservation, 300 Sugarloaf St., South Deerfield, MA
This fabulous potluck picnic event is a
collaboration of vegan and vegetarian groups in the valley (so far,
Valley VegOut, Valley Vegan and Vegetarian Facebook, Valley Vegan
Society, Veg Families of the Pioneer Valley, WMARA, and ). More details
to follow, but we expect this to be a augmented potluck (optional: bring
any vegan dish if you can) with some staple food offered (like vegan
burgers).
Given the
substantial numbers of people coming from both sides of the river
(Northampton and Amherst) as well as from north or south on I-91, we
picked a central location right off an I-91 exit and easily reachable
from both sides: The beautiful picnic area atop Mt Sugarloaf.
Event admission is free. Parking
is limited (free at the bottom, $5 at the top, but spaces may be very
limited at the top), so carpool if possible -- and we can ferry people
up who park at the bottom lot or nearby side streets.
There are also three optional hikes to the top, if you meet at the bottom around 3:30 and decide where you all want to go:
1) A short/strenuous 20-25 min hike up the steep hiking trail.
2) A longer/moderately strenuous 35-45 min hike up the road.
3) A shorter/moderately strenuous 30-35 min hike from the trailhead on Mountain Rd. For this one, bring a trailmap:
