Last year’s “Puppy Doe” law was gutted before being enacted. It’s empty legislation. But we now have a second chance to protect vulnerable animals from animal abusers.
Coalition to Protect and Rescue Pets just learned that House Bill 1385, sponsored by Rep. Steven Howitt (R-Seekonk), will get a public hearing on October 21. H1385 is solid humane legislation that will:
· Create a registry of Massachusetts residents convicted of abusing animals AND
· Require individuals convicted of animal abuse in other states to register within 10 days of relocating to Massachusetts AND
· Prohibit breeders (including backyard breeders), pet stores and shelters from selling or giving animals to individuals on the registry
H1385 is before the Judiciary Committee, which must approve it--or it can't become law. Take a few minutes to ensure it does:
