Dear Peaceable Friends,

In this issue:
  • The Glimpse of the Peaceable Kingdom features an orphaned bunny who was rescued by a farm family in Yorkshare, UK.  Seeing the pathetic creature on the sofa, the family's lactating companion cat picked him up and carried him to her "nursery" to join two new siblings.
  • "Wonderland"and "Looking Glass" fans may already have opinions to share about "The Walrus and the Carpenter," Lewis Carroll's poem telling a crazy and rather nasty story about an oyster meal.  The Editor's Corner Essay offers a few  reflections on this scene.
  • One of the July Unset Gems, by theologian Elizabeth Farians, manages to elicit a chuckle as it encourages the reader to stop eating animals--the perfect bumper sticker message.
  • In this month's NewsNote, Aa beautiful scene on Sumburgh Head, a spur at the tip of Shetland, hides an environmental tragedy.
  • Robert Ellwood Reviews the entertaining Seafurrers:Ships' Cats Who Lapped and Mapped the World, by Philippa Sandall.  For good measure, Robert adds a story Ms. Sandall unaccountably omits: that of Unsinkable Sam, who survived on fewer than three ships' sinkings.
  • My Pilgrimage for July features none other than Elizabeth Farians, theologian and activist extraordinaire, reprinted from the August 2010 PT.
  • Enjoy the Vegetable Nut Loaf, a Recipe taken from two Jewish veg cookbooks.
  • "The Walrus and the Carpenter" is, of course, our Poetry Selection.  You just might find the unlikely pair of heroes of the story a little less than amiable.
