Dear Peaceable Friends,

Please accept my apologies for the lateness of this issue.
  • Instead of a Glimpse of the Peaceable Kingdom, enjoy this amusing photo by Karen Davis of Miss Earth Angel, a chicken rescued in 2015. It's fun to imagine what she might be thinking as she examines the children's book.
  • The Editor's Corner Essay "The Fear and Bliss of Oneness" reflects on the mystical experiences close to death of three persons--experiences of oneness with God and with those they encountered in their lives--experiences that were somehow both terrible and blissful.
  • Have you heard about the happy three-way marriage of a family of three adults eagles and their three eaglets in Illinois?  See the NewsNote.
  • One of the Unset Gems is a well-known line from T.S. Eliot, "Humankind cannot bear very much reality."  Judging from the union that we will probably experience at some point after death, one can see something of what Eliot may mean.
  • Our Pioneer is the likeable and colorful George Cheyne, eightenth-century physician, who went veg first for his girth and his health, and renewed his regime out of love to his fellow humans and other animals.
  • Try the New Zealand Supper Dish, our Recipe for this month.  It is both simple and sumptuous.
  • Finally, the Poetry selection is Ella Wheeler Wilcox's "The Voice of the Voiceless."  While it is not a top-flight poem, the rhyming is skillful and the voice is eloquent, and it still speaks to us after a hundred-plus years.
