Dear Peaceable Friends,

In this issue of PT:
  • The Glimpse of the Peaceable Kingdom shows a young primate and tiger snuggling.  Put together as babies, the two have remained friends.
  • The Editor's Corner Essay speaks to the issue of supposed Biblical approval of hunting.  Robert Ellwood concludes that the Nimrod passage in Genesis actually associates hunting with rebellion against God.
  • One of the NewsNotes tells of the huge expansion of production of Beyond Meat and Impossible Burgers.
  • In one of the two Letters, PT subscriber and photographer A.J. Morey comments on the July-August issue dealing with hunting.
  • Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century author and publisher Richard Phillips is this month's Pioneer.  Phillips is an appealing and colorful figure who was interested in almost everything, and actively and deeply committed to compassion and justice for victimized animals and oppressed human beings.
  • Robert Ellwood Reviews How to Create a Vegan World by Belgian activist Tobias Leenaert,  This book emphasizes pragmatism; e.g., since "reducitarians" greatly outnumber vegans, and are the ones primarily responsible for the increasing availability of many veg products, we should encourage gradual change for most, rather than urging people to go vegan all at once.
  • The Recipe this month is for an easy-to-make and tasty chili.
  • Environmental activist and professor Paul Lindholdt wrote this month's Poem "The Way to Open," inspired by seeing two sea otters opening abalone shells.
