after eating, it's time to wash the dishes.

i ask you fans of food, are dishwashers twice the work?

i've seen debates on what saves water and i've heard more convincing arguments on manual washing uses less water. but what about time?

most dishwashers i've used and the one i currently use does not clean them well if not pre scrubbed. so to scrub before going into the machine and then rewash those dishes that still have residue... do dishwashers make double the work? what is more time efficient?

let me know your thoughts.

I always wash by hand. I can be pretty conservative with water when hand washing. Also, I don't mind doing dishes, it can be a relaxing tasks sometimes. But the main reason I prefer hand washing to dish washers that I oddly don't hear many people mention is that my energy to wash dishes by hand comes from the sun, whereas (unless you have your own solar panels or something similar) the energy to wash your dishes in the dishwasher probably comes from coal or natural gas. Not to mention the additional embedded energy that's in the dishwasher from the energy intensive processes of mining the materials, manufacturing, shipping, and disposal. It's really not even a close argument as to what is better when you break it down like that.
