VegaDNS SRV record

I inherited a couple of tinydns installations that are being maintained using VegaDNS 0.9.10. My management is not keen on updating this. I have a domain that requires a couple SRV records. I can manually enter these into the tinydns data file but when someone else later makes changes using VegaDNS and runs the update script, these manually entered SRV records are overwritten. How can I prevent this from happening? How can I represent these SRV records in VegaDNS's database? Any assistance is much appreciated.

Edit the update script to add the lines to the tinydns data file before make is run. Put your extra lines in a file data.extra
eg

# add extra data here. This will be appended if the file exists
EXTRA="$TINYDNSDIR/root/data.extra"
if [ -f "$EXTRA" ]; then
  cat "$EXTRA" >> $NEW
fi

add these lines just above
# Don't run make if the files havn't changed

Hi Matt

Do the upgrades.. The latest versions support SRV.. You can copy data to a VM and test  upgrades.. Will make life easier in long run.

Yes, both of these options will work for you (thanks Brian and Bob).  I do favor doing the upgrades, as there are other bug fixes along the way that you'll want.
