Ifyou built a product, chances are you want people to know about it and start using it, too. And ifyou are in the business of selling something to consumers, placing video ads on websites is a veryeffective way to go about that.

Over time, it has been proven that advertisement videos with subtitles havehigher engagement ratescompared to those without. With browsers often starting videos muted, captions are a great way tocapture an audience's attention and get your message across.

Now, there are two ways to caption a video, you can use Closed Captions or Open Captions. Closedindicates that the captions are not visible until activated by the viewer. Open, "burned-in","hard-coded", or "baked on" captions, on the other hand, are visible to all viewers at all times, and can't be disabled. The subtitles are made up of pixels in the actual video itself.

While there are many advantages to Closed Captions (the viewer can select their appropriate languageor choose to opt out) there are also interesting use cases for open caption. A particular one I'dlike to be focus on here is running advertisements in a scenario where you can't always rely onplayer compatibility, but you still want to make sure your message gets across.

Manually burning subtitles into a video can be a huge headache, especially if you have a largearchive of videos to caption. Luckily, the team at Transloadit has your back! We are proud topresent to you our brand-new and shiny /video/subtitleRobot.

If you want to burn subtitles into a video, the first step would be to provide both the video andthe subtitle file to our Robot. While there is a plethora of ways to do this, I willdemonstrate the following two:

In the code block above, we have created subtitles that will run between the beginning of a videoand the 22-second mark. Next, we will make the file available via a public URL, so our/http/import Robot can import it.

In the code block above, we have used the /http/importRobot to import two different files, then declared a subtitled Step, wherewe specified which of the imported files is the video and which is the subtitle file, i.e., the/video/subtitle Robot's use parameter. Next, weexport the results to our S3 bucket. The s3_cred refers to the Template Credentialsthat I have securely stored before, and contains both the bucket name and the access keys.

Alternatively, we could be using the /upload/handleRobot to get either the video or subtitle file to Transloadit. We do not define multipleupload points as the /upload/handle Robot can handlemultiple uploads in one instance. The files form different fields in a multipart upload. Because ofthis, in our subtitled Step, we need to define which fields contain our video and oursubtitle file.

"fields" within use filters are the input field by the name attribute. So, in order to makethis work, we would need to add an to our form (and onewith name="video"). For non-browser SDKs, this translates to adding files as follows:transloadit.addFile('video', './file.mp4').

As I hope to have shown in this introduction, burning subtitles into video files doesn't have to behard or time-consuming at all, when using our /video/subtitleRobot. With Transloadit, you never have to worry about dealing with FFmpeg, scaling afleet of machines, or tying it into other media processing jobs. We've been perfecting that part forthe past nine years, so you can focus on your business.

"Laws are made to be broken.".In the year 2035, where robots are common and abide by the three laws of robotics, a techno-phobic cop investigates an apparent suicide. Suspecting that a robot may be responsible for the death, his investigation leads him to believe that humanity may be in danger.

McDaniel is trying to improve those odds. With $355,000 in grant funding from the US Naval Sea Systems Command, he and a team of graduate and undergraduate researchers are developing new seafaring robots that can patrol large areas together and collaboratively hunt for underwater threats.

DARPA has finally unveiled more of its mysterious Manta Ray robotic sub, with impressive new images of the prototype Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle (UUV) undergoing its first sea trials off the coast of Southern California.

Looking like a cross between a B-21 Raider bomber and a refugee from a '60s sci-fi television series, the Manta Ray is about as enigmatic. While DARPA has been happy to release some details about the sub, the agency has been a bit coy about very basic information about specifications and performance.

The Manta Ray is set to play a lead role in a new class of UUVs that are long range and long duration, as well as capable of handling a wide variety of payloads. It can also be shipped in sections in standard containers and assembled where needed, without taking up space at piers or naval facilities. In this way, it can be quickly deployed without wasting time and wear in transit.

From the presence of people and a small boat in the images, we can see that the Manta Ray isn't small. It also has a stern that seems to have shrouded propulsors and perhaps thrusters for maneuvering. Along with this, there are protuberances that are likely some sort of antenna, water inlets, and a general shape that indicates that it's designed to glide through the water in the most energy efficient way.

According to primary contractor Northrop Grumman, the Manta Ray has a modular construction and energy-saving systems that include the ability to anchor itself on the sea floor and go into hibernation mode. There are low-power undersea propulsion systems, new sensors for underwater detection and classification of threats and hazards, high-efficiency navigation and command and control systems, and cutting-edge anti-biofouling and material degradation approaches.

This first test period, which took place in February and March, focused on the Manta Ray's hydrodynamic performance while submerged, and the operation of the propulsion, steering, buoyancy, propellers, and control surfaces. The tests also included the portability of the sub as Manta Ray was disassembled and packed in five standard shipping containers before being sent from Northrop Grumman's Maryland facility to California.

"Shipping the vehicle directly to its intended area of operation conserves energy that the vehicle would otherwise expend during transit," he added. "Once deployed, the vehicle uses efficient, buoyancy-driven gliding to move through the water. The craft is designed with several payload bays of multiple sizes and types to enable a wide variety of naval mission sets."

Program modules which can be selected and run from the Teach Pendant usually consist of two files with the same name but different extensions. For example, if you create a module on the Teach Pendant called PROGRAM1, two files will be created: PROGRAM1.SRC and PROGRAM1.DAT.

the .SRC file contains executable code. The .DAT file is where variables are stored. When you create a new motion point on the Teach Pendant, the command to move to that point is recorded in the .SRC file, and the actual location of that point (XYZABC, Tool, Base, Speed, Acceleration, Approximation, etc) are stored in the .DAT file.

Files can be copied from the robot onto a USB stick, or vice versa. However, if you do not know KRL programming well, the file you edit may contain errors that will cause the robot to reject it. Sometimes these files will not load. Even if they do load, they will not run until they have been repaired.

Firehouse Subs, which opened less than a year ago, has awarded the Wichita Falls Police Department a grant for $26,290 through its non-profit organization, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

"This is a really good deal," WFPD Sgt. Adam Maloney said. "This is going to potentially save some of my officers' lives. If really bad stuff happens, we can send this robot in before we put our officers at risk."

"To me, it feels good to know there's businesses and people in the community who really support us and want to take care of us," Maloney said. "It definitely draws in business for them, since we love coming in here and eating."

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the foundation with the goal of providing funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations, a WFPD news release stated.

The Navy's $43-million purchase of four Orca Extra Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicles, or XLUUVs, comes as the fleet struggles to build enough new manned submarines to replace older vessels that are decommissioning as their nuclear cores wear out.

"The 51-foot-long submersible is launched from a pier and can operate autonomously while sailing up to 6,500 nautical miles without being connected to a manned mother ship, according to the Navy," Werner continued.

Orca features an open-architecture design. The robotic sub "will be modular in construction with the core vehicle providing guidance and control, navigation, autonomy, situational awareness, core communications, power distribution, energy and power, propulsion and maneuvering and mission sensors," Seapower quoted the Navy as stating.
