Ihave two videos that I'd like to appear SIDE BY SIDE then the final video is exported. I have a presenter of a program and an ASL interpreter. They were recorded separately. I'd like to have both the presenter clip/track AND the ASL person next to each other.

Click on the clip on the timeline, click on that clip in the timeline to select it, then go to the Effect Controls Panel and in the Motion section, using the horizontal position control, move the Presenter so the he/she is off to one side.

Go to the Effects Tab, and find the Crop Effect: Effects > Video Effects > Transform > Crop, and drag the Crop effect to the clip on V1. Controls for the crop will now appear in the Effects Controls panel - so you c

Go to the Effects Tab, and find the Crop Effect: Effects > Video Effects > Transform > Crop, and drag the Crop effect to the clip on V1. Controls for the crop will now appear in the Effects Controls panel - so you can trim of any extraneous material.

Now place the clip of the ASL Interpreter on V2, directly above the clip on V1. It will temporarily obscure the clip on V1. Click on the clip on V2 to select it, then go to the Effect Controls Panel and in the Motion section, using the horizontal position control, move the Interpreter to the side of frame not occupied by the Presenter on V1. Repeat applying the Crop Effect as you did on the clip on V1 to the clip on V2 and trim off excess video.

Is there a way to do a simple side by side without having to crop one of the videos? I have 2 videos, both of odd resolutions that are of the esame event, from different angles. I just need to run the videos side by side with a single audio track, but the only way I have found so far is by cropping each of them, which won't work for this project.

You could create Alpha Mattes (in PhotoShop)to composite and feather the edges, for use with the Track Matte Key effect in Premiere.

You might have the center portion at full opacity, than create two alpha channel images to control the blending/feathering of the video that will run on the left and right sides.

The left side alpha would be solid white (pass-through) on the left third, with a b/w gradient approximately 1/3 from the left side of the frame, to create the feathering. Than, the remaining 2/3 of the image would be solid black (no pass-through).

You would flip all of these instructions to set up the composite for the right side, as well.

I'm trying to edit a footage video with Premiere Pro CS6. The raw file is 1920x1080 HD shot with a wide lens camera. So I created a new project in Premiere Pro and I made a custom sequence using exactly the same numbers: 1920x1080

However, the result is not what one would expect. The resultant sequence has two black stripes on both sides of the video. I verified both the properties of the video file and the sequence and they both say 1920x1080 but you can see the result on the screen shot. The sequence is on the right with the black stripes on both sides. On the left, you can see the preview raw footage window that looks just fine... Obviously if I render out the video, what goes out is the one on the right and I do not want to have the black stripes on both sides but I can't get rid of them.

Aj Henderson is right.Your pixel aspect ratio is different in each video. You can see that from the pool table, the one on the left is stretched out, while the one on the right is squished, it almost almost like you have 16% black bars on either end of the video on the right. Pixel aspect ratio, anamorphic 1.333.

Create a new sequence, I am assuming AVCHD, select 1080p folder and then select the item AVCHD 1080p24 Anamorphic (or the 25 frame one, dont know what video setting your source is at). Also note there is a little tab at the top called settings when creating a new sequence, you can click that to view your pixel aspect ratio.
