Schaum's Outline of Thermodynamics for Engineers, Fourth Edition is packed with four sample tests for the engineering qualifying exam, hundreds of examples, solved problems, and practice exercises to test your skills. This updated guide approaches the subject in a more concise, ordered manner than most standard texts, which are often filled with extraneous material.

- 889 fully-solved problems
- 4 sample tests for the engineering qualifying exam
- An accessible review of thermodynamics
- Chapter on refrigeration cycles
- Nomenclature reflecting current usage
- Support for all the major leading textbooks in thermodynamics
- Content that is appropriate for Thermodynamics, Engineering Thermodynamics, Principles of Thermodynamics, Fundamentals of Thermodynamics, and Thermodynamics I & II courses

The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to understand the working principles of thermal engines and heat systems and to solve design and performance problems related to them. He will be able to demonstrate a solid and operational knowledge of principles of thermodynamics in the form of balance equetions, including availability analysis, and of the basic mechanisms of heat transfer (conduction, radiation, convection).

The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. The student must demonstrate the ability to solve, with critical awareness, design and operation problems of thermal systems analogous to the ones introduced in classes.

Ciclo Rankine-Hirn: ciclo a vapor saturo e surriscaldato, spillamenti (cenno) e risurriscaldamenti. Ciclo Joule-Brayton: ciclo semplice, ciclo rigenerato, compressioni multiple, effetto delle irreversibilit.

Basic concepts and definitions in Thermodynamics. Thermodynamic properties of pure substances, equations of state. Generalized balance equations of mass, energy and entropy in lumped parameter formulation. Steady state open system (control volume) analysis. Working principles of simple machines and availability (exergy) analysis. Steady flow of incompressible fluid in ducts (generalized Bernoulli equation). Power and refrigeration systems of industrial interests. Basic mechanisms in heat transfer.
