I need your help. I have been using Eric Meyers’s VDE since the late 80s. I had it set up with Word Star commands and used it for editing and word processing.I had used WordBasic to set up Word to behave the same. It just worked.

Now it doesn’t. I think the problem is Microsoft doesn’t handle 16 bit words anymore.

Any ideas? Please share. TIA

Thomas,

Of course there will continue to be enthusiasts of DOS software, and you may
include any of my freeware that seems relevant to your theme or purpose. I'd
be glad to take a look at some point, and you can ask any further questions
privately.

Hi Thomas G. Hess,

I don’t understand in your question, if you are using Word or VDE?

Yes, too many pronouns ("it"), not enough antecedents.
If you are using 32-bit Windows, then you can run 16-bit software. If you are using 64-bit Windows, then you can't run 16-bit software, unless you run it in a DOS emulation.

Have you tried DOSbox?

Hi Thomas,

As I recall there was originally a 32-bit version of Windows 10 that still
supported 16-bit software through VDM, but it sounds like you now have a
recent 64-bit version (of 10 or 11) that does not. This means you need a
third-party DOS emulator like DOSbox or vDOSplus, which actually work fairly
well with a few limitations. See the discussion of "DOS EMULATORS" in
VDE.TXT, and feel free to ask any further questions. My own choice was the
2015 version of vDOSplus, for the best overall behavior when running VDE itself.
