for class next week

Hello all,

Next week, we will continue to workshop labels and text. Kristie has volunteered to write text for one gallery (Kristie--remind me which of the two themes you selected). I'm looking for one person to volunteer to write the other thematic panel and a second person to write text about the Barnet-Aden gallery. Meredith, would you be willing to do the latter?

For those who are not writing a text panel, please bring in two more object labels (neither being a re-write we discussed yesterday).

Hi Peggy,

I'm writing the Re: Location panel.  I will build on what I brought for the Catlett series since a few Re:Location themes overlap with it (rural/urban, for one). Please let me know if it would be useful for me to make a quick mock-up of the 1-page guide to the Catlett series that the class discussed.

Did you happen to find out / or decide the thematic panels' length?

Word count for thematic panels should be 300 words, maximum. 

A couple other things: We need a volunteer to calculate pedestal sizes (based on Tom's tips; see notes that Izzie provided). 

Also, please bring a list of potential terms/concepts that COULD be addressed in EACH object label you are writing. The list of potential terms includes: great migration, cubism, abstraction, regionalism, primitivism, double consciousness, Works Progress Administration, printmaking, Ash Can School, Civil Rights Movement, modernism, New Negro Movement, New York School, Social Realism.

Peggy/Everyone,

I am not sure if someone else has volunteered to take over the
Negotiation text panel but I am willing to volunteer although I am not
incredibly confident with abstract expressionism, etc. I wasn't sure
if Grace or Andrea who have an interest/background in contemporary art
might feel more comfortable...

I know Andrea is flying somewhere so I don't think she has even gotten
this message yet.

What I meant was that I would like to help you with the gallery text panel, not necessarily write it, since I have a lot of individual labels to work on. I would be more than happy to help out with writing and work on getting photographs or other visual elements for the panel. But for next week I will bring two more individual labels for review.

Hello All,

Last email I promise- I will also take care of all pedestal drawings.
I am volunteering for both of these things in the hope that when
Andrea gets back from Qatar we can more evenly divide that work
(pedestal drawings & text panel). So I will be creating pedestal
drawings for next week for the following pieces:

Richmond Barthe- bust
Sargeant Johnson- bust
Elizabeth Catlett- nude
Norman Lewis- 2-sided painting

Please let me know if I have forgotten a work.

Hello Everyone,

Sorry I've been out of touch - we just got connected at the hotel in Doha.  I don't mind working on the Negotiation Panel, but I would like some talking points or direction on it if anyone has any ideas.  I can probably figure it out on my own, but if anyone has any input I'm happy to take it.  I am fairly certain I will be in class on Wednesday, but in case there is a delay or anything, I will send my text via email to the group.
