Hi friends,
I am Anika Kalia from M.Sc Integrated IT.
A company called Zoho Corporation came for Integrated M.Sc and MCA only in September, 2012.
Criteria:
There were no criteria and anyone could attend the selection procedure.
This company came for both Internship and Placement. So those who had already got their internship in other companies could not attend it. This was a good chance for us since it provided both internship and final placement and we had no competition with be/btech people.
There were totally two written rounds and then direct interview at the company premises. The first written round was aptitude test plus technical and the second was purely technical.
Although Zoho people did not introduce the company using presentation slides but they did give us introduction about it for about twenty minutes and then stressed us to ask questions. Normally, company people will say at the end of the ppt “Any Questions?” and after some 30 seconds if no one responds then they leave the matter and proceed ahead. But, here, the HR stressed us to ask questions and after two minutes or so everybody seemed to be scratching their heads for some possible questions and three or four students from MCA finally asked something and like this about 45 minutes passed during the intro.
So, the point is that be prepared already for any kind of question that the company people may want to be asked and just ask it and in that way you may create a good impression. Do your revision and go through the company’s site one day before for any specific question and there are some questions that are common to all companies which you can keep in mind always and ask at the right time. (For example, compensation, locations etc.)
But, if there’s any ppt conducted by any company then be sure to attend it and be attentive and note down the points on which you can ask questions. Normally, you might feel that what’s the use in attending ppts, you can directly go to the written rounds. But, mind it, the company people already know this psychology of students and there is a reason why they keep ppt apart from general intro and they may test your attentiveness during interviews asking questions from ppt. So, be careful.
The first written test was divided into two parts – the first part had 25 aptitude questions. The time allotted for that was 1 and a half hours. Pretty cool eh? Lots of time for 25 questions. And those questions were not very complicated but you could easily solve them if you know the basics of some common aptitude questions asked almost everywhere. Then without any break, they provided the question paper of the next part as soon as the time for first round ended. The next part was of one hour consisting of 10 technical questions based upon c/c++ programming questions and sql queries also. All were objective type questions except one or two where we had to write direct answers or outputs. Some seemed a bit wrong so I wrote down the corresponding compile time or runtime error. Here also enough time was given for mere 10 questions of objective type. The question papers were shuffled i.e. everyone got different or random sets of questions. This was the first company that gave so much time for comparatively fewer questions that are not very tough to solve. It depends upon different companies what and how they want to test but mostly time will always be less so prepare accordingly.
After an hour the results of the first round were declared and after another hour we were told to assemble again for second written round. Out of around 130 or so people originally, 50 were selected for the second round. This round was for 75 minutes. It consisted of 5 programming questions where we were supposed to write the codes for each programming question that can be written in c/c++ or java. This was between easy and tough but you have to be good at the basics to think through the logic within time. They were basic programming questions from where you begin your placement preparation. It seemed that they were checking the logic of your solution more than the syntax but all the same you should have good knowledge of the syntax also. When such questions come where you have to write codes, be sure to write legibly with PROPER COMMENTS. Comments are important since the person checking your paper needs to know what actually you are trying to do. Just think as if you are explaining to him your logic. Without comments he may not get an idea of your logic as he has lots of work and no time and patience to exercise his mind trying to make out something from your codes. But be precise in your comments. Don’t write an essay.
The results of the second round were to be announced two days later as the answer sheets were to be processed by the technical people at the company. But, they announced the results after one day only and told to come at the company the next day for interview. We were four from M.Sc and the total people called for the interview were 27 out of 50. So, the next day, the interview proceeded separately for each of us. My interview took exact one hour where I was asked purely technical questions. He began with my seventh semester project asking the summary of it. Be very thorough with your project as that is the most important question asked in interviews (and most of the time first). Know your codes as they may ask you to write them. Then he proceeded with my area of interest as given by me in my resume. Be very careful about your resume. Interviewers will ask majority of questions from it and your areas of interest. Be thorough with your basics. As the interviewer wants to know how much you really understand a concept. Too many details or complications will not help. And, don’t be either too overconfident or very shy. Try to stay cool and natural. He just asked me some basic concepts of oop and from my experience I can say that even if you think you know almost everything you may not satisfy the interviewer. So, be careful of what he’s asking and try to answer in the best way possible.
I had only one round while some others had two rounds both technical also or one technical and one hr. It purely depends upon them how they want to conduct this process. Don’t get disheartened thinking that since you were not called for the second round while others were, there is some fault with you. They may take you also with only one round. You do not know their reasons. It’s their process.
· Always, keep around five copies of your resume.
· Keep good number of passport size photos also.
· Keep your certificates with you always and the photocopies also.
· Keep the above mentioned things always with you even if no company is visiting until you get placed.
· Be prepared for anything. Day scholars don’t get impatient as you may have to stay for full day in college waiting for long periods of time for your turn. Just stay calm and don’t let your frustration and tiredness affect your performance in the interview.
Be thorough with your areas of interest and data structures and dbms also. As they are the most common subjects asked about in interviews. Be clear of programming basics especially c and c++ and already prepare for some commonly asked questions. You can find them in different sites like the cracktheinterview.net, indiabix.com, fresherworld.com
Prepare quantative aptitude from R.S Aggarwal book and even from above mentioned sites. That will be more than enough material.
Programming questions asked in 2nd round of written test were:
1. Inverse of the given string without using string function and another array.
2. Find out second largest number in an unsorted array.
3. Find number of bits set (i.e 1) in a given integer. e.g. (input: 7 output: 3).
4. Latin square matrix nxn
Input: 6
Output: 1 2 3 4 5 6
2 3 4 5 6 1
3 4 5 6 1 2
4 5 6 1 2 3
5 6 1 2 3 4
6 1 2 3 4 5
5. Print word form to given number
E.g.: 1834
As “one thousand eight hundred thirty four
Questions asked to me in interview were: Explain abstraction, inheritance, encapsulation, polymorphism with some examples. Explain function overloading and overriding with examples. Need for overriding.
So, this was my experience with Zoho. I hope this helps you in your preparation. All the best juniors.
