Thank you Sarvanan Prabhu for taking the lead in the ideas.  These are a great start and please continue to discuss - as you probably know the chapter 14 discussing modes can be found at http://vedabase.net/bg/14/en

To answer your question:  Anger and Jealousy(envy) have their roots in the mode of passion. They put a person eventually in mode of ignorance.

Have fun!

Dear friends,

Here is the summary of goodness, passion and Ignorance modes. Also some ideas for our drama.

Note to DYS Admin Team: Please correct if any of our understanding is wrong.

GOODNESS mode:
A man in the mode of goodness is not so much affected by material miseries. Mode of goodness means greater knowledge and a greater sense of happiness. The difficulty here is that when a living entity is situated in the mode of goodness, he becomes conditioned to feel that he is advanced in knowledge and is better than others. In this way he becomes conditioned.

IDEAS FOR GOODNESS:
being happy
No intoxication
No meat eating
No gambling
helping others
respect others
understand others feelings
praying to God

PASSION mode:
When the mode of passion is increased, one develops the hankering for material enjoyment. He wants to enjoy sense gratification. For sense gratification, a man in the mode of passion wants some honor in society, or in the nation, big house, expensive car etc. As long as one is hankering after these things, he has to work very hard. One in the mode of passion is never satisfied with the position he has already acquired; he hankers to increase his position. If he wants to construct a residential house, he tries his best to have a palatial house, as if he would be able to reside in that house eternally.

IDEAS FOR PASSION mode:
always in hurry
never satisfied, wants to have more and more

IGNORANCE mode:
This mode of ignorance is just the opposite of the mode of goodness. Everyone under the spell of the mode of ignorance cannot understand what is what. under the spell of ignorance, one cannot understand the thing as it is. Such people are very lazy. When they are invited to associate for spiritual understanding, they are not much interested. He sleeps more than is required. Six hours of sleep is sufficient, but a man in the mode of ignorance sleeps at least ten or twelve hours a day. Such a man appears to be always dejected and is addicted to intoxicants and sleeping. These are the symptoms of a person conditioned by the mode of ignorance.

 IDEAS FOR IGNORANCE MODE:
being dejected
alcoholic
meat eating
gambling
Too much of sleeping
do not respect others
do not understand others feelings
No God consciousness

I guess anger and jealousy(envy) must be coming under passion mode. They may come under ignorant mode as well, but I am not sure.

Please feel free to throw your ideas.

Saravanan

We are all doing the Discover your Self class together and we were asked to come up with a project with Three Modes of passion from Chapter 14 of Bhagavad Gita.

I am not sure about the website that our teacher told us but I found this - http://www.asitis.com/14/index.html

We are 5 people and we need to figure out how to share the 3 modes among us. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Nithya

Here are some ideas for the plot:

Three individuals in different modes interact with each other.  One finally moves to transcendence

Someone in mode of passion goes to goodness and then to transcendence while other in mode of passion falls down to ignorance.

One individual gets afected by all three modes at different times of the day and attempts to read Bhagavad gita and becomes transcendant

Great script Nitya mataji.  However there is no mention of the interplay of modes.  Would you please add some lines around the interactions of various modes of material natures - Goodness, Passion, and Ignorance.

Few suggestions to the script at couple of places -

VCC Member 1: These classes are absolutely free and are conducted by devotees who practice and preach as per the authentic sampradaya. They got benefited through guru parampara and are now volunteering their time to pass on the absolute knowledge.

VCC Member 1 & 2: Teaches about Who's God, How was the world created? What's bad karma, good karma etc. - Here VCC Member 1 & 2 can recite and share the essence of few slokas from 14th chapter such as -

http://vedabase.net/bg/14/5/en
http://vedabase.net/bg/14/6/en

http://vedabase.net/bg/14/7/en
http://vedabase.net/bg/14/8/en

http://vedabase.net/bg/14/22-25/en
http://vedabase.net/bg/14/26/en
http://vedabase.net/bg/14/27/en

Saravanan prabhu, please let me know if you are ok reciting first 6 slokas and explaining the essence. I will try to do the rest. If needed, we can reduce the number of slokas as appropriate.

Good Idea Krishna Prabhu. But, I am not good at remembering slokas, that too within short period of time. I feel explaining summary of what we were taught in DYS course should be easier for the person who is going to act as VCC member.

Please see the attachment for the summary of what we were taught in DYS course. Please feel free to provide your feedback.

By the way, can I get the kid character that just does turning on the TV and watching cartoons :-)

Dear Saravanan prabhu,

Awesome! It is wonderful to go through the summary and I agree with your suggestion. You will do a splendid job as a VCC member in the skit. May Lord Krishna's causeless mercy make us realize the truth, respond to it by staying in the satsang and practice the essence we learned in the class in all of our daily duties. Like Radhika Gopinath das prabhu beautifully mentioned in the class, may Lord Krishna be the central point of our thoughts, words and actions.
