Hello All
Before you wipe this list could everybody write a few words as to how you thought VCAMP2010 went.
I want to use the info gathered in our weekly meetings and will forward it to the camp committee for the next couple of camps.
Here is what I thought.
I thought it was the best venturer camp I have been to, it was my third. The food was excellent. There was a problem with milk going off so maybe we could consider smaller deliveries more frequently, or hiring fridges? Was it short dated? My only gripe is that in village E & F we were not allowed to have fires, perhaps we could negotiate with the farmer on this point before the next camp. Fantastic views though.
The main issue I would like you to address is the vennie, many lessons learnt about the harsh realities of a market society, put over in a light hearted way. However, an equal society can only be achieved if that is what the society wants. The vote taken in our village was that adults be excluded from the second share out. I found this really very disturbing, having fought for equality in all areas of life, especially encouraging younger members within woodcraft folk to have a say as to how it is run and both locally and nationally. I’m obviously not getting that right!
Was it the intention of the organisers that we should take direct action, some of our leaders did not want to cause disruption or impose sanctions so this was voted against in our village.
All of the adults there are pro youth, pro equality and pro the woodcraft folk, I don’t think the camp could be run without the presence and cooperation of the adult helpers please tell me if I am wrong. Vtopia was well thought out and very well run, but the way the second share out was voted on was not fair and not democratic. The general circle was told that it was a venturer workshop, nothing about there being a vote, what the vote would be about, or who was entitled to vote. The only reason I was there was that I could not move very fast as I am waiting surgery on my knee! With a full programme and DF’s, KP’s and camp chief’s needing to attend other meetings and start their own workshops, all of the other adults and most of the DF’s had already left the circle.
Maybe the some younger members think that the adults do not pay for camp or that they are paid to attend, or even that we were allowed to use sterling at camp.. All of my district pay the same, even the driver paid to attend and paid for his share of the transport costs.
VTOPIA, brilliant idea, not explained and not democratically executed. If this had happened would the vote have been different? I would like to think so.
Many thanks to all involved.
