I. Job Description:
The Vietnamese American Young Leaders Association (VAYLA) is seeking two (2) soccer coaches to coach and mentor a soccer team for youth in the Village de l’Est community for youth ages 13-17. This position is being offered as part of Coach Across America (CAA), a project of Up2Us, a youth-development focused athletic program.
Coaches will be required to hold three soccer practices weekly, attend a national training April 5-April 9, and partake is quarterly planning sessions and monthly professional development with the VAYLA’s Youth Development Coordinator. Bilingual Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply.
II. Organization Description:
The Vietnamese American Young Leaders Association of New Orleans (VAYLA) is a youth-led community-based organization that empowers Vietnamese American and underrepresented youth through supportive services and organizing for cultural enrichment and positive social change. Young community leaders founded VAYLA in 2006 as a means to reach out to the larger community to create a voice and organize to address the needs in the local community. Committed to youth development, community empowerment, higher education, and cultural awareness, VAYLA is composed of young leaders, high school and college students that want to engage and empower others educationally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
III. Skills/Qualifications
· Experience facilitating recreational opportunities for youth
· Familiarity with the Village de l’Est community
· Knowledge of youth development models and experience supporting leadership development of young people
· At least six years experience playing soccer
· At least two years experience coaching
· Strong interpersonal and professional skills
· Comfort working in underserved communities of color
· Must be a U.S. Citizen or have permanent residency
