EngageNOLA Meet the Candidate Series

We are making history next week, for the first time ever EngageNOLA will host two BACK-TO-BACK events in our
Meet the Candidates Series.

Stacy Head & Cynthia Williard-Lewis
Candidates for New Orleans City Council-at-Large

NEXT Monday 4/16 and NEXT Tuesday 4/17
5:30 PM and 5:00 PM
Cafe Istanbul (inside the New Orleans Healing Center)
2372 St. Claude Ave.
$3 Old New Orleans Rum drink special during both events!!

We are hosting Stacy Head on Monday, April 16 at 5:30pm at Cafe Istanbul, inside the New Orleans Healing Center on St. Claude Avenue (cross street is St. Roch). It is free to attend and there will be a $3.00 Old New Orleans Rum drink special, and some time for mingling and formulating your questions before the candidate does a short talk and then we open up the floor to questions and answers.

And then the VERY NEXT NIGHT in the same room, Tuesday, April 17 (but this time at 5:00pm), candidate Cynthia Willard-Lewis will be on hand. We’ll again have the $3.00 drink special, some mingling time, and then the candidate will speak and take questions.

The Council At-Large election is the ONLY one on the ballot on April 21 (Saturday following), and it will decide who takes former Councilmember At-Large Arnie Fielkow’s seat. Choices are:

Councilmember at Large (Select 1)

Do a little research, join EngageNOLA and ask the candidates yourselves, so you know who the best candidate is!

If you don’t have a car, you can catch the RTA buses 88 (St. Claude), 57 (Franklin), or 55 (Elysian Fields - 4 blocks away) to get to the Healing Center (2372 St. Claude Ave). Or if you ride a bike, there are bike racks in the rear parking lot.

As usual at our events, we’ll be registering people to vote in New Orleans. If anyone wants to volunteer or support our cause, you can contact us at engagenola.org for info.

The goal of the EngageNOLA Meet the Candidate Series is to provide access to candidates for public office in an informal, neutral and fun setting; and to promote informed civic participation and education for a new generation of New Orleanians. EngageNOLA, with member organizations Puentes New Orleans, Urban League Young Professionals, Young Leadership Council, and VAYLA, is uniquely positioned to bring together diverse audiences of young professionals from across the city. We believe that by directly connecting our generation with public leaders, both from government and from the community, we can better understand and address our city’s challenges now and into the future. For additional information on this event and EngageNOLA please go to our website, www.engagenola.org or email us at  geten...@engagenola.org.

EngageNOLA is a diverse, non-partisan group of young adults committed to ensuring all voices are heard in elections. Through facilitating public forums and providing accurate, non-partisan information on candidates, EngageNOLA seeks to raise the level of discourse and hold candidates to a higher standard of accountability so everyone can make more educated voting decisions. Beyond elections, EngageNOLA seeks to work on accountability of elected officials and transparency in government.
