TheLegacy Minecraft Launcher was discontinued on March 10, 2022. While it can still be downloaded, the launcher won't be able to install itself as the launcher.pack.lzma file required by the launcher is no longer available for download. This means that official support for Minecraft on Windows XP and Windows Vista was also discontinued as the new Minecraft Launcher can't run on these versions of Windows.

I recently saw DanTDM's video about Minecraft 2.0 (version from 2013's 1st april jokes) so I wanted to try it on my own. I remember installing custom/older versions on old launcher (the one before 1.11) so I thought that it should be easy. But I have problem, on this new launcher, when I transported the jar file to .miencraft/versions, launcher won't recognize it. Help please?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.

TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.

Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Last time I searched the web I found a page I can't find anymore suggesting to uninstall and use the Legacy launcher and that worked for the base game*However this time around when I did a fresh install it's giving me the error and I can't install the game at all.

I tried the main AND the legacy launchers, I tried clearing every single file on my computer related to Minecraft thinking maybe something's corrupted, I tried punching a hole through my desk to relieve the unbridled anger this whole thing sparks within me.

I can't seem to find any resources that apply to it. Most articles I've seen brings up Windows 11, I'm on win 10 and can't update to 11 because Microsoft decided my computer hardware isn't compatible. If it's not win 11 related it's a different error altogether.

*using curseforge for modpacks would still give me the error after a long wait on previous versions, now that I've uninstalled the game and can't get it to run curseforge obviously doesn't pick it up on the system

Welcome to Arqade! On Google, I found this: helpdeskgeek

It lists some potential methods to fix your problem, but I'm excluding a few because you've already done it, or what you have done rules it out. So, what remains is:

Launching as an administrator

Now I'm sure you probably already did this or know how to. But just in case, you can try launching it as an administrator by right-clicking on the application, clicking "Run as administrator" and then clicking "Yes" when it asks you to allow it to make changes to your device.

Run the program compatibility troubleshooter.

Windows provides a troubleshooter for games not downloaded from the Microsoft store. You can access it and run it by right-clicking on the app icon, then click "Open file location", right-clicking on the game's icon in the files, then clicking "Troubleshoot compatibility" and following what it says.

Temporarily disabling your antivirus

Sometimes antiviruses get in the way of downloading stuff. Look up how to disable the antivirus that you use and then try it again if you haven't. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW THE THING YOU ARE DOWNLOADING IS SAFE

Download Minecraft w/o the launcher.

I have never tried this or know how it works, but Minecraft does have an alternative download page here that downloads Minecraft without the launcher. Follow whatever it tells you to do, and it may work.

I tried loading a 1.9 resource pack in 1.11 and my java crashed then the computer (windows 7) blue screened and restarted. When I later tried restarting my Minecraft the launcher will come on but I can not do anything.

press your Windows+R keys, type in %AppData% at the dialog, and press Enter. In the window that appears, open the .minecraft directory, and delete everything except for the saves directory that you see therein. Then, try running Minecraft again

According to the Minecraft Wiki page for the Launcher,it should be possible to run the Minecraft launcher using username and password prefixes from the command line and go directly to the game instead of through the launcher.

To run Minecraft with Forge (change C:\Users\nov11\AppData\Roaming/.minecraft/to your MineCraft path :) [Just for people who are a bit too lazy to search on Google...]Special thanks to ammarx for his TagAPI_3 (Github) which was used to create this command.Arguments are separated line by line to make it easier to find useful ones.

As of 4/29/2017 the Minecraft launcher for Windows extracts all native files and places them info %APPDATA%\Local\Temprandom folder. That folder is temporary and is deleted once the javaw.exe process finishes (when Minecraft is closed). The location of that temporary folder must be provided in the launch arguments as the value of

Also, the latest launcher (2.0.847) does not show you the launch arguments so if you need to check them yourself you can do so under the Task Manager (simply enable the Command Line tab and expand it) or by using the WMIC utility as explained here.

If you want to make a custom launcher using the command line then good luck, the only way to login to the minecraft jar(IE: the way the launcher does it) is to send a post request to with the username, password, launcher version, and a RSA key. It then parses the pseudo Json, and uses the session token from that to authenticate the jar from the command line with a load of arguments.

I have been playing minecraft for a long time on ubuntu but I have always used the old 'java' launcher.Since there is a new launcher I would like to update minecraft to that. I have searched the internet but can't update it whatever I do even reinstalling the game won't fix it.Can anyone help me?

Ive been having a really hard time trying to solve what is causing my minecraft forge to crash when attempting to play, immediately after i press play it crashes. I deleted all my mods and currently have none in my mods folder so i know it has nothing to do with outdated mods or mods in general, its forge. I can still play vanilla minecraft.

It is still not working for me too unfortunately, and i have tried reaching out directly to get support from forge off of the curse forge website but they did not help and instead redirected me here again where my problem remains unsolved, id appreciate it if someone could reach out to me and help, as many others i have encountered online are having the same problem .

I was also having this issue, and read elsewhere that it was due to AMD Ryzen graphics drivers needing an update. Updated mine and it took care of the issue for me. Hope this helps for you guys as well. Good luck!!

- Saw this post and yes, I did have indeed an update on my ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX (Nvidia) card, updated this one, rebooted pc, tried with forge without and with mod and several different versions

So yes, I guess I have to stop playing this game .... just now I have made a server for my son to play on together with me .... As there is no issue when forge is not involved it must be something related with forge.

JarJar is the name for Forge's jar-in-jar system. Basically, mods can embed dependencies and libraries inside their mod jar. These log messages are saying it already found the required deps as normal jars and will be using those instead of embedded ones, nothing to worry about.

I copied and pasted my crash log in the pastebin website following your instructions, heres the link: hopefully i did it right and inserted the right crash log, I followed your instructions on how to find the debug.logs and just clicked on the most recent one, but i can just try starting up minecraft with forge again to get a new crash report and copy and paste that to be sure it's the right one. Heres the log right after the game crashed:
