In this help center, you can find content for both Merchant Center Next and the classic Merchant Center experience. Look for the logo at the top of each article to make sure you're using the article for the Merchant Center version that applies to you.
Use the shipping settings in Merchant Center to manually configure account-level shipping services. If you prefer to set your shipping cost and time for each product, use the shipping [shipping] attribute instead.
To ensure customers view the most relevant shipping options during checkout and potentially improve conversion rates, provide all available shipping services and rates for each product in the Merchant Center, even if you choose not to display them all in your ads. This comprehensive data allows us to present the most suitable choices for each customer, potentially leading to higher conversion rates for you.
If you offer multiple shipping services for a product within a country, we'll automatically choose the most relevant shipping option, considering factors like delivery time, customer preference, and other relevant details. This chosen option will automatically be used and shown as needed.
For example, if you have one service that specifies free shipping for products over $150 USD and another service that specifies a carrier-calculated rate for all products, then free shipping would be shown for all products over $150 USD.
Note: You may configure up to 20 shipping services per country. If the sub-accounts don't have their own shipping configuration then shipping policies are inherited from the parent account.
When setting up your shipping cost, you can choose from several options such as free shipping, fixed rate, or free shipping over a certain amount. You can also switch to advanced settings to view more options.
Use this option if you charge common carrier-calculated rates. Customers will receive a rate based on dimensions, weight, customer location, and origin postal code. So make sure to submit shipping weight [shipping_weight], and dimensions (shipping length [shipping_length], shipping width [shipping_width], shipping height [shipping_height]) in your product data.
If you require a minimum order value for the service (for example, if you require that customers spend $30 USD to use that shipping service), enter that amount. Products with a price below the minimum order will still be shown, together with your minimum order value. If you do not have a minimum order value, leave this field blank. Learn more about minimum order value.
Use this option if you charge shipping based on a percentage of the order cost. Customers will view the shipping cost as a percentage of the total order value. For Shopping ads and free listings, we use the product price as order value.
You can add the "No shipping" option to exclude shipping based on order weight and order value. For example, if your express service is limited to orders up to a specific weight, you can use the weight dimension to set all orders above the limit to "No shipping". If you require a minimum order value for a shipping service, add it in the service description.
You can create custom regions and reuse these regions to set up shipping. This shipping option is currently available for Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Learn how to Set up regions.
Once you enter your shipping information, you can check the shipping cost (and tax rate) that will be displayed in your ads and free listings. Along with the shipping cost, you can view the source of that cost (for example, settings in Merchant Center or the shipping [shipping] attribute in your product data).
Considering shipping before you start is important for setting up shipping correctly before taking orders in your WooCommerce store. If you are new to WooCommerce, we recommend taking some time to answer the following questions.
Freight transport, also referred as freight forwarding, is the physical process of transporting commodities and merchandise goods and cargo.[1] The term shipping originally referred to transport by sea but in American English, it has been extended to refer to transport by land or air (International English: "carriage") as well. "Logistics", a term borrowed from the military environment, is also used in the same sense.
Land or "ground" shipping can be made by train or by truck (British English: lorry). Ground transport is typically more affordable than air, but more expensive than sea, especially in developing countries, where inland infrastructure may not be efficient. In air and sea shipments, ground transport is required to take the cargo from its place of origin to the airport or seaport and then to its destination because it is not always possible to establish a production facility near ports due to the limited coastlines of countries.
Cargo is transported by air in specialized cargo aircraft and in the luggage compartments of passenger aircraft. Air freight is typically the fastest mode for long-distance freight transport, but it is also the most expensive.
Cargo is exchanged between different modes of transportation via transport hubs, also known as transport interchanges or Nodes (e.g. train stations, airports, etc.). Cargo is shipped under a single contract but performed using at least two different modes of transport (e.g. ground and air). Cargo may not be containerized.
For example, a shipper works together with both ground and air transportation to ship an item overseas. Intermodal freight transport is used to plan the route and carry out the shipping service from the manufacturer to the door of the recipient.[4][5]
The Incoterms (or International Commercial Terms) published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) are accepted by governments, legal authorities, and practitioners worldwide for the interpretation of the most commonly used terms in international trade. Common terms include:
The term "best way" generally implies that the shipper will choose the carrier that offers the lowest rate (to the shipper) for the shipment. In some cases, however, other factors, such as better insurance or faster transit time, will cause the shipper to choose an option other than the lowest bidder.
International DTD is a service provided by many international shipping companies and may feature intermodal freight transport using containerized cargo. The quoted price of this service includes all shipping, handling, import and customs duties, making it a hassle-free option for customers to import goods from one jurisdiction to another. This is compared to standard shipping, the price of which typically includes only the expenses incurred by the shipping company in transferring the object from one place to another. Customs fees, import taxes and other tariffs may contribute substantially to this base price before the item ever arrives.[6]
Before you take your first order, you need to decide what shipping methods you want to use, and then set up your store's shipping so that your customers can choose a delivery method at checkout. The delivery methods that you choose depend on what is applicable for your business and what kind of physical goods you sell. The three main methods are shipping, local delivery, and pickup in store. Your business can use any of these methods to deliver your products.
