to Perugia 2011 Algebra Course by Prof.Nikolay Vavilov
Hi everyone,

my name is Ivan Bartulović and I come from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
I did my 3-years bachelor at the University of Primorska in Slovenia and my first year of master studies in Lille (France), where I start my second year very soon in September.

As of now, I didn't specialize in a particular area (hence I don't have advisor nor thesis subject yet), however I admit I enjoyed my differential geometry and algebraic topology courses, so learning some algebra could be useful to enrich my previous knowledge or rather to see some things in a new light.

Concerning the courses I had until now: two linear algebra courses, groups, rings, Galois theory and (if it counts) algebraic topology.

Regards

Dear Ivan, thanks a lot! Then you should be on set for the course, and on the other hand, there
will be something new to you there.
By your name we first assumed you might be Russian or Belorussian, we didn't know, where
Universitet Primorski was, and guessed it might be either somewhere on Baltic, or on the Pacific,
in the Russian Far East. For those who are not Slavic-speaking, "more" is the same as Italian
"mare", or German "Meer" (like in English "mermaid"), so "Primorsk" simply means "sopra mare",
like "Shanghai".
If you are at Lille 1, as I would assume, there is my colleague from St. Petersburg, Valery Gritsenko,
who worked there for many years, who is doing fancy things exactly in the field you described,
between algebra and geometry. But I'm sure there are many other excellent mathematicians there.
Good luck with the choice of the thesis advisor!

N.V.
