Cluster Name vs Cluster ID?

Hi!

In "vault status", there are two fields:

  "cluster_name": "vault-cluster-0000000",
  "cluster_id": "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000",

I was wondering what they're both for? I see cluster_name is configurable in Vault's config, but cluster_id is undocumented. Does cluster_id remain the same across seal/unseal and backup/restores (at least with a Consul backend)?

Intuitively, cluster_id should be used to identify a cluster, is that a correct assumption?

The cluster name is for human consumption while the id is used to uniquely identify the cluster.  The id will not change after vault is initialized.
