Hey guys
If you thought Kai Tak was tough, then check this out:
 
With a single 6000 ft runway and hilly terrain, it makes for one of the toughest approaches in the world. In fact, the approach shown in the video is a RNP 0.3 approach, i.e, it has to be accurate within 0.3 miles of the approach course! Also the final glideslope is 5 degrees!
 
So, lets fly to the exciting airport and test our skills!
 
Departure-  Juan Santamaria, Costa Rica (MROC)
Destination- Toncontin International, Honduras (MHTG)
Route- A502 BERTA
Fix-by-fix-  UPALA MGA BERTA
Distance- 300 miles
Time and date- 1000z on March 27, 2010 (staurday)
 
Charts for MHTG attached, we will probably need to do the VOR app for rwy 02 as it the the one mostly in use.
It is advisable to practice a few landings as you are going to need a good control over the airspeed, descent rate(-1500 fpm!) and of course the braking!!

I flew into MHTG during the last VATCA event, and it WAS THRILLING!

 

Please make sure you don’t fly any of the following into Toncontin: 747’s, A340’s, AN225’s.

 

Personally, I have flown A319’s and B738’s there without problem. Maybe up to 757 can get in and out of there (not sure about 767/757).

 

The RNAV approach is even more difficult than the straight in VOR approach. Only fly the RNAP approach if you have an FMC that can handle VNAV accurately. I like to fly the VOR approach as it is simply more fun with a big F.

 

With Raj’s OTS at 1500, today looks like an exciting evening.

Can we have the Honduras flight tomorrow at 1400z, if it's ok?
It might get hectic today with the OTS
