Work continues to repair Derby burst pipe damage

> When the 21in pipe ruptured at about 1920 GMT on Saturday, the pressure tore a large hole in the road's surface.
> The busy road has been closed, but the water supplier said it hoped to complete surface repairs on Monday.
> Nine ground-floor flats were badly damaged and have been evacuated.
> Severn Trent said it had received more than 400 calls from customers without water, but said all had now been reconnected.
> The company has apologised to those whose flats were flooded and also to motorists inconvenienced by the closure of

Síðastliðinn laugardag rofnaði 21 tommu þykk vatnpípa í miðbæ Derby, á
mótum Ashbourne Road og Friar Gate. Talið er að hún hafi rofnað vegna
jarðvegshreyfinga sem rekja má til mikilla hlýinda undanfarna daga.
Þegar vatnspípan rofnaði varð svo mikill vatnsþrýstingur að stórt gat
myndaðist í veginn og vatn flaut þar upp og út á götu. Vatnsskemmdir
urðu töluverðar og þurfti að rýma 9 íbúðir á jarðhæð vegna vatns sem
komst þar inn, auk þess sem að um 400 manns hafi hringt og kvartað
yfir vatnsskorti. Fyrirtækið Sever Trent sér um viðgerðir og segir
talsmaður þess að mest áhersla sé lögð á að koma vatni til þeirra íbúa
sem orðið hafi fyrir vatnsskorti. Vegurinn er lokaður á meðan
viðgerðir standa yfir en áætlað er að þeim ljúki á mánudaginn.
