I think it has two meanings; one Lovecraftian meaning, and one universal meaning. I'll start with the Lovecraftian meaning: what Lovecraft is saying is that there are monsters and demons that simply don't die, that simply don't perish or go away. His monsters and demons. They eternally lie within the landscape of the universe, hiding or skulking around somewhere down there......and that they will even outlast death.
The universal meaning, I think, is that the earth will be here long after death no longer exists. Which is to say that we will all die, all of the animals will die, along with all of the plants and the trees and all of the living things, until life no longer exists. And, watching over it all, brooding in silence for nobody to see, will be the remains of the earth, which shall eternal lie.
This can be true with fiction writing aswell. If someone is adjusting the death event of a character, then it could mean they want their death to occur earlier, but they want their age to remain the same. Or it could mean that adjusting their death date means that they want to adjust their age (which sounds like what you are after).
That is Not Dead: Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos Through the Centuries is an anthology of original horror short stories edited by Darrell Schweitzer. It was first published in hardcover by PS Publishing in February 2015.[1][2] It shares a title with That is Not Dead: The Black Magic & Occult Stories, a short story collection by August Derleth published in 2009.[3] In both instances, the title is derived from a couplet by H. P. Lovecraft attributed to his fictional "mad poet" Abdul Alhazred: "That is not dead which can eternal lie, / And with strange aeons even death may die."[4]
The fourth version of AEOD. It had more new stuff such as, more weapons and the implementation of player classes. Other features added since version 4: Monsters that can transform you into chicken with 30 HP, and medical kits stored in inventory are auto-used to prevent death when low on health , etc.
Temple of Void is another Lovecraft-focused band, and their approach is a little more on-the-nose than most. Dabbling in the death-doom genre, this group, comprised of members of Acid Witch and Hellmouth, is grungy, detestably heavy, and grim as all hell. On each track of Of Terror And The Supernatural, they capture a different slice of existential horror and make it their own while still managing to retain a riffy edge to their sound, melding together head-banging tunes with visions of ultimate evil. Their thick, chunky guitar tone and droning, washed-out leads work together to create a nigh-tangible fog of atmosphere, a smoky night rife for an invasion from another dimension. Truly, their band name fits perfectly, as their music seems highly appropriate for some chaotic Lovecraftian ritual, an ominous temple in which the screams of human sacrifices and obscene chants fill the night air.
First cast Hastega then Auto-Life on all your party members. Now, your primary concern is to get rid of the left arm quickly since it carries the biggest threat (Tetra-Graviton), Once its gone, Double cast Ultima repeatedly. Summon your aeons at overdrive, especially Anima and
Magus Sisters. The right arm will cast Mighty Guard on all the parts after a few turns so be ready to use Dispel or Purifying Salt to remove it. Remember that the arms regenerate so you'll have to kill it again.
Another alternative in defeating Penance is to grand summon Yojimbo and pay him lots of gil again then hope for Zanmato. This occurs randomly and worse, he often does Wakizashi the moment he appears, thus he dies even before you get to pay him for Zanmato.
A few years back I read an article from somewhere that had Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse) saying he felt Aeon were his favorite death metal band at the time. This high praise lead me to seek out any music by them I could find. And I'll admit, it didn't do anything for me. Not quite sure why, just didn't. But, that was a few years ago. Things have changed. I'm balder, beardy-er and in general, even more red than I have ever been. (This is a reference to the color of my hair....and maybe my semi-Irish temperament). Anyway, back on track here. Aeon's newest album Aeons Blac" popped up on our promo list recently. I stared at it a few times, debating. But as usual: Fuck It. Let the death metal pounding begin.
Lead off track 'Still They Pray' is an anti-religious affair. Vocals backed up with a blistering backdrop of savage death metal. And lyrics bashing Christianity, OK, I'm in. (The lyrical content of the album follows this context plus death, revenge, murder, ya know, all the good stuff kids are brought up on these days). The guitar tone is somewhat familiar, but I'll let it go because its a tone I do rather enjoy. We'll just say that maybe Aeon caught wind of Mr.Webster's kind words.
'I Wish You Death' and the title track are two of my personal favorites in the mix of this album. The former bringing some really nice guitars with squeals thrown in the mix. And the solo is a building block of nice playing that leads to what I feel is the only appropriate way to perform a "breakdown" in death metal. And it doesn't overstay its welcome. Plus 10 points to Aeon for that. The title track starts out dragging bones to the cadence of "Where's your savior. Where's your God". It's a rather blunt message, but it comes across with conviction. The tempo stays in the mid-range. A nice chugging pace that will have the crowds throwing horns, head banging, and allowing them to scream the gospel along with the band.
'Maze of the Damned' could almost be taken as a Cannibal Corpse track. But, again, this isn't a gripe as Aeon throw enough of themselves into the song to make it enough of their own. Finally, 'Die By My Hands' rounds out this album of blasphemy and destruction just right. Those loving their death metal epics as a full onslaught should be sure to listen to this song. Scorching vocals, blast beats galore, winding guitars and even a tinged choir in the mix: all there to close this album in true fashion. And the lyrics may make you feel somewhat better about the shitty day you had at work. I myself need that every now and then, so I don't doubt you do too.
So, what exactly does Aeons Black accomplish? Why should you check it out? It's a modern day death metal album that would fit right in in the 90s. Its a middle finger to today's "pretty boy in a white shirt with nice hair, playing only breakdowns and chugging one string on his guitar" trends. It's what death metal needs to stay healthy and alive. Webster knew what he was talking about; Aeon wave the flag into battle and bring is back bloodstained for all to see. A death metal album, no more, no less. Nowadays its what we need. HAIL!!
The themes of cosmic horror permeate so many aspects of sci-fi, whether it be in video games like Bloodborne and Call Of Cthulu, cinema like Alien or Predator, the terrifying manga of Junji Ito, or indeed the lyrical themes of death metal.

The Bunker of Life 30:16 lyrics buy track My long-dead grandfather I saw suddenly in a dreamWearing his best Sunday clothesAs if to attend the holy massWith arms wide open, he beckoned me to come nearBut standing at his bunker's doorstep I hesitatedHe smiled and slowly strolled towards me"My time has come, but you are not ready yet" he saidAs the gate was slowly shut in front of my hazy eyesHe whispered "See you in Atlantis"And the bunker sunk in the cold earthFor forty days I fell in a deep depressionAnd when I finally arose, my eyes could see clearSome call it Lemuria, others speak of HyperboreaWise tongues sing the praise of the mighty AtlantisAppearances deceive, but their essence remains the sameDeep in the collective unconscious I dugTo find the truth in my grandfather's wordsUntil I realised that I am cosmic spawn Child of a superior raceBut aren't we all?Once upon a time all eyes could see, all ears could hear But deaf and blind we now walk towards our fate Gateways closed to sacred knowledge Access denied to our failing consciousnessEver since my grandfather spoke to me I continue walking the left path towards Atlantis' lights From the stone circles of great Albion To ancient Hellenic temples In mighty pyramids and the vast deserts of the earth I'm roaming to teach the gospel of truth But who is listening?Precious like good old wine Scrolls have been passed from generation to generation Until buried under the dust of aeons The ancient lore now hides from consciousness A sign we are approaching the end, la fine è vicinaPassing on my right side the zillions of souls Heading the other direction Hopelessly lost in wilderness Humanity is doomed, la fine è vicina 2. Alexandria's Library 16:35 lyrics buy track Remember how we used to meet in Alexandria's library? That vast conglomerate of knowledge and powerTogether we would look at papyrus' scrolls for hours Studying the ancient lore, consuming words of wisdomThe world seemed ours back thenAll we ever needed to know at the tip of our fingers Scribbled on precious scrolls by rippled hands Memories preserved with magical inkThe muses sang their enchanting song for us While we created and debated in their honour Our own words of wisdom soon immortalised Among the writings of the wise menThings look very different nowAs we behold this devastationThe annihilation of our archaic traditionsMeans the umbilical chord is cut foreverFire has eaten the insides of our mindsOut of the ashes and hot coalOne needs to create strength and courageTo find wisdom for future generations We lost sight of each other And as aeons and aeons passed We almost forgot of each other's existence And our paths took us to different directionsAs I behold your melancholy face from a distance For the very first time in many years Sadness overcomes my ancient soul Now realising that you never forgave meTraditions come and go my friend But once established, they poison the mind You already are all you need to be And ancient texts only serve to detract from your essenceSo wipe these tears and move on now Knowing that Alexandria's library perished for a reason The hand that carried the torch Did a great service to mankind;Intellegetis unum diem 4. Greeting Mausolus' Tomb 04:23 lyrics buy track O my captain, my sole reason of existence As I enter your majestic tomb to end my life In the company of thousands of servants and once loved horses I thank you from the bottom of my heartThank you not so much for the way you lived But for the way you died A humble lesson to us all Always aspiring to beauty and riches The repulsion I feel at the foul smell of your rotten body in death Can only be matched by my utter contempt At your hideous demeanour in lifeThis existence has never seemed more meaningless and vain So I embrace my awful death with passion And look forward to the suffocating moment That will forever take away my pointless breath of life about Released by Transcending Obscurity Records on CD and limited edition boxset.
