Great idea. That would be extremely useful.
Dear Devotees,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Some of the discussions on this forum have been described as
“confrontational” by one writer, which was also evidenced by several
who have left as a result. There was a call for focusing the
discussion to a more purposeful end, so I have created a “SocialGo”
community (a sort of private facebook) to serve that purpose. This
discussion group has as its goal the creation of an acceptable common
understanding of varnashrama dharma, or varnashrama culture, that can
be translated into an action plan.
The preliminary organization of the SocialGo website (hereafter called
Gramya Rupayati: village design) is now complete and can be viewed at:
http://varnashramaculture.socialgo.com/. So with this email I would
like to introduce the idea and invite your participation.
To organize the discussion the varnashrama culture has been divided
into ten major topics, plus questions, and one forum to discuss
ongoing efforts:
a. Varnas
b. Ashramas
c. Economics
d. Governance
e. Education
f. Historical aspects
g. The arts, cultural, and social issues
h. Daiva-varnashrama
i. Transition from modern living to pure varnashrama to daiva-
varnashrama
j. Other important aspects not covered above
k. Questions
l. Feedback from existing efforts
Additionally, the various aspects of these topics will be examined in
terms of context: past/future, idealistic/realistic, possible now/not
possible now/possible later, etc.
You may notice that simple-living, self-sufficiency skills are
missing. That discussion is very broad and would require its own
social website. The present effort is to bring a varnashrama village
into existence. Once that is on the horizon other subjects related to
village life may be added later, on this or another forum.
This present Google Group “varnashrama culture” will continue for
casual discussion, while the Gramya Rupayati forum will be very
structured. Each member is allowed to participate in up to three
groups, limited because we want focus. Participants of Gramya Rupayati
are expected to do serious research and to write essays explaining
what they have understood. “Discussion” will be limited to questions
and brief critical remarks. The point of this structure is to cause
the reader to make effort to understand what is written, and to help
the writer understand more and improve their understanding and writing
through supportive feedback. Each group will be moderated and the
moderator is charged with keeping things on track, and noting the
differences that arise in the discussion. The effort here is not to
establish one’s superior understanding, but to support each other in
discovering the truth of varnashrama culture. After the discussion in
each are is complete the results will be posted for all members to
review and critique.
Go have a look around. To enter the site you will need the password
“varnashrama2010”. If you register you will be sent more detailed
protocols. Gramya Rupayati is a private forum and although anyone with
the password will be able to read, only registered members will be
allowed to comment.
If you have any questions about Gramya Rupayati please ask here, on
this Google group. We pray that our combined efforts may be pleasing
to our spiritual master and eternal guide, His Divine Grace Srila
Prabhupada.
In his service,
Dhanesvara Das
