I'm looking for RETS server to use as MLS server for test purposes.
This is the only open source I've found.. but is this project abandoned? Not much activity here for years.

Hi Kim,

We are using Variman at Hawaii Information Service. It is a very good implementation. We have recently upgraded Variman to support RETS 1.8. We did not implement the update or payload transactions but it supports the basic RETS 1.8 spec. Once it is certified we plan on uploading it to the Variman site. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Regards,

Gregg

Mine is probably still running: www.dis.com:6103/rets/login. Use “Joe” and “Schmoe”.

I’ve been out of the real estate business for nearly 5 years now and have no incentive to maintain it any longer -
I’d rather spend my uncompensated time doing other things. That said, it _is_ open source. Have at it!

Please do! Ask Mark Lesswing or Chad Curry of NAR to make you a committer to it. Or, I’ll keep my eyes open and merge the PR.

Hi Mark,

Will do.

I do have a question regarding Variman if you don’t mind. There is a standardnames.xml file that Variman is reading. I need to update this file to support the latest DTD. Is there some code somewhere that generated this file? If not, how was this file originally generated.

I know it has been awhile since you worked on this but any insight would be greatly appreciated.

BTW – we have been using Variman since 2011 with great success. Any time a third party RETS vendor has challenged us on Variman “not being to spec” we have always won the debate. Great job!

Regards,

Gregg

Hoo boy ... I really don't remember where I got that from. But, if you look at the `XmlStandardNameDao`, you'll see a `saveStandardNameMap` that can be used to create the file and a `loadStandardNames` method that loads the map from the XML file. You can probably hack something up using that code to make your changes.

It has ... I had to go grep the code just to find that! :-)

Someone else was the original author, but I hacked it and updated it for later versions of RETS. Glad you're getting RETS 1.8 into it.

Gregg

Gregg,

We're still using Variman over here at RealGo.  Any chance you were able to complete the RETS 1.8 certification?  Do you have a public repo?

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Bill,

I do have a basic Variman RETS 1.8 server running. I submitted it to RESO for certification but have not heard from them. Once it is certified I will upload it to the Variman repo. As mentioned it is a basic implementation and does include the update transaction.

Regards,

Gregg

You should be using a RETS client or if you want to use a browser, you need to include the header “RETS-Version: RETS/1.7.2”. Variman won't properly respond without the header.

Hi Gregg, I am trying to setup Variman RETs and run into a roadblock in its setup. Is there anyway you would be able to give some guidance. thanks in advance.

Hi Gregg (or anyone else still around here),
Has there been any update on your RETS 1.8 implementation? Even if it's not certified, it would be great if you could either upload to a repo or send me a copy if doable. Thanks!

Gregg - did you get anywhere with your certification effort?

Even if you didn't, go ahead and create a pull request for your changes and I'll get it merged. Even if it isn't fully certified, it can be useful and may help others.
